Running... From Coast to Coast and Back Again - Tink 1/2 TR, Princess TR

Subbing! Your trip sounds fabulous so far!

I am currently training to run a 5k on Mother's day. It's the Race for the Cure and it benefits breast cancer. I am NOT a runner, but I think that I have been doing pretty good so far! I have been loving it. So, I have a couple questions! Do you have any tips?! I know that a lot of people do different things to prepared, so I wanted to know if you ate a special diet leading up to the race or if you ate something specific before you ran. I am really looking forward to doing it. If i can complete it (which shouldn't be a big problem, hopefully ) I want to do a the Disney Princess Half or the W&D Half. I'm nervous about that because that is a lot longer than my 5k. Was that hard for you to train for!? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Looking forward to reading more about your plans! popcorn::

Sounds like it's going to be so fun! I can't wait to see some pictures from this race. I am dying to do it. Definitely next year. How long are you planning on staying at the after party? Hopefully it won't be too crowded. It looks like it's not full yet so it may not be too bad.

What kind of things do they give away in the scavenger hunt and I know you haven't done it yet but I have always wanted to do the drawings at the art of animation but just never seems to work out. Hope it works out for you and dbf. I wish we had a disney store close by to bye all the cools little plates and other stuff.....take care. Jeff.

I'm not exactly sure how the scavenger hunt is going to work because from what I've been reading, it changes a little bit each year. I'll be sure to take pics of everything though! The Art of Animation is so fun! We make sure to do it every time we visit HS! and it's one of the reasons that HS is my DBF's favorite park.

It seems liek the park will be very busy with only those few aras open. Do the yserve food too? Ok, yes, I'm the one worried about the food. LOL!

I'm a little worried about it being crowded too. I haven't heard too many complaints about it though. I know there were alot about the Wine & Dine after party last year so Disney switched things up for this year so hopefully they have the kinks already worked out for this even too* I haven't heard anything about food but I would assume they'll just pass out the typical after race brown bag consisting of a muffin, banana, water, and gatorade. At least that's what it usually is.

Hi and Welcome! Good luck on your upcoming race! I'm sure it'll go great and then you'll be hooked. The only real tip I can give you is to make sure you do the proper training before a race. I know that seems like common sense but it's really the best thing you can do. As far as a diet, I don't really have a running specific one. I jsut try to eat fairly healthy in general. That being said, I do tend to eat pasta two night before an event (not the night before like most) and the morning of a race I like eating a bagel with peanut butter. I feel like the carbs from the bagel and the protein from the peanut butter help me. But I make sure to eat it at least 2 hours ahead of time to make sure it isn't heavy in my stomach during the race. I don't think you'll have any problem moving up to half marathon, especially since both those races are still pretty far away. If you decide to do the W&D, I would start training in June and maybe find a 10k in August to try. I use Jeff Galloway's training program and his run/walk interval of 5 minute run / 1 minute walk. I love it and think it makes training and running easier. You can get the program free on his website. If you decide to do the W&D and don't have anyone to run with, let me know. You're more than welcome to run with my roommates and I. Or, if you do the Princess and don't have anyone to run with, I'll most likely being running by myself.

I'm getting so excited. I'm at the 17 day mark today. I'll be sure to take a lot of pictures and videos during the race! I'm not sure how long we'll stay. I'm sure we'll ride each of the 3 rides at least once before leaving but we'll see what the crowds are like. I'm really hoping they aren't bad! Also, did you see the announcement for the new Disney race? I'm excited because Tink is my favorite but it's harder for me to get out to CA than it is to FL but it's so close to the WDW half and the Princess half.. Have to think about this one..

DBF and I had another movie night last week. I attempted to make a post about it but it wouldn't let me add pictures so I decided to just wait. So finally, here it is...

For our second movie night, we watched...

Mulan! This is one of my favorites! I think it's hilarious. I think that's mostly because of Mushu though. For dinner, I made Sweet & Sour chicken:

It was fun but once again DBF slept through some of it. Oh well, there's always next time...

In fact, tonight we are having another movie night so hopefully I'll be able to post about it tomorrow!

Thanks so much for the advice! I am a total running novice, so any tips are great! Thanks! I will definitely let you know when I am going to be running! I have the training schedule already printed out! :)

I hope you continue to have successful movie nights! I love the plates you have too! :) Hopefully you DBF will stay awake for one soon! :rotfl:

Hey there!! :goodvibes I found your next report! You have turned into a running fool :rotfl:, I am so excited for you!!! I had a rough time following the wine and dine half...my ex decided itd be best to part ways and I fell out of the running routine :headache: Buttttt I randomly met someone on the Disboards (crazy I know) and everything has been amazing. So I got that motivation back and signed up a for a local half (only a month away now :scared1:) I am not prepared at all for it...but hopefully I can get it together for race day...I won't take it too seriously either!

The new DBF and I are taking an October trip to WDW, but no race for me this time, butttttt I am planning on signing up for the full marathon in January...you should do it too!! I mean you are already signed up for every other race :lmao:

Ps I was looking over the theme night thread that you mentioned and I really want to do one of those now!! I think I am going to pick a movie that we haven't seen before and hopefully we won't fall asleep (I tend to do that watching movies at home!)

Great night. I love your Mickey plate!

Thanks! I really like them too. Plus, I got all four of them for $10 using the coupon I received for pre-ordering Tangled which makes it even better!

Just wait until you run your first Disney race, you'll be totally hooked! Once I return from my Expedition Everest trip, we'll be starting our training for the the Disneyland Half and I can't wait! I think the training makes the time till the trip go by faster because you're concentrating on your mileage and working up to your goal. I'm getting really excited!

I'm sorry that you went through a rough patch for a while there, I know breakups can be tough... But, it sounds like things have worked out for the better which is great! Plus, it's even better that you met someone on the Disboards (which is kind of crazy in a good way) because you already know they're a Disney fan! You don't need to do any converting . I just saw the link to your PTR so I'm going to hop over there now.

I know I've gone a little crazy with the running thing but I figure at least it's a healthy addiction :rotfl: As of right now, I'm leaning towards doing the half next Jan., I'm just not sure about doing a full. I may wait and see how I feel after my next half to see if I really could manage a full. Last Jan., I mentioned doing a full to DBF but I was so sore after the half I couldn't imagine why anyone would want to do a full  But, we'll see.

Movie nights have been really fun but I've been trying to Adultify (I'm making that a word) our movie nights for my DBF since he's not a huge Disney fan. He picked CARS as our next one though since he's never seen it and we're doing Tangled last because he's never seen that one either. But, sadly, he has yet to stay awake for one... I hope you have fun with yours!

We had another movie night the other night. I could have sworn I took food pics but alas, they have gone missing :confused3. But, anyway, we watched...

Lilo & Stitch!

I love this movie! Note why I named my dog after one of the main characters. I'm not sure what it is that I like so much about this movie but I really do. For dinner, we had "pig roast" (ham), grilled "hawaiian" pineapple, Stitch's space rocks (baked beans), and soggy sea shells (shell macaroni & cheese). I'd like to point out that I don't always share these food names with DBF as I just don't think he'd really "get it".

Oh, and of course, DBF slept through a large majority of the movie....

It's Online Check-In Cha Cha Day! :cool1::banana::yay::dance3::yay::banana::cool1:

Yes, I did do a small cha cha this morning when I woke up and again just now after I completed our online check-in!

10 Days left! AKL here we come!

I can't beleive you are about to go on another trip! You are so lucky!

I can't beleive you are about to go on another trip! You are so lucky!

I can't believe it either. This trip was so random and spur of the moment that it doesn't quite seem real. Especially because it was surprisingly not entirely my idea! I had come to terms with the fact that I probably wouldn't be going back till I went to run the half marathon in Sept.! But, I mentioned it to my dad and he just laughed and brushed it off but my mom told me the next morning that he had been online checking flights and that was all I needed to hear. I got on and priced everything out and sent it to him to see if we wanted to go with me. He said he didn't want to but if I could talk DBF into it then we could use his reward flights. Well the rest is history! But, I still can't believe it either...

:cool1::banana::yay:SINGLE DIGIT DANCE:yay::banana::cool1:

I can't believe we're in the single digits already! I still haven't quite made that full realization that I'm going back again so soon! I feel like it may not hit me till I'm actually on the plane. Nonetheless, in preperation for the trip and our race, I needed an awesome costume. I tossed around several ideas and with help from all of you, I decided on the zebra theme. I ordered a zebra print running skirt from runningfunky.com. I was a little worried since I'd never had one before but it came in and is great! It's a little big but it doesn't ride up so that's all that really matters. I posted this before but just to remind you, here's what the skirt is like:

shorts_12.gif

It's a pair of spandex shorts with a spandex skirt (attached) over it.

For the top, I went to Target and just bought the lightest weight tank top I could find and then I added a Zebra print Mickey head to it so it'd match my skirt. Here's the finished product:

I'm extremely happy with how it turned out and can't wait to wear it for the race! I just need your help on one more thing... zebra bow, red with white polka dot bow, or no bow? I usually add a bow to my Mickey heads to make them a little more feminine but I can't decide if I like it and if so, which one. So, what's your opinion?

No Bow:

I have only seen parts of Lilo & Stitch....I know I know I need to add that to my list of ones to watch :goodvibes

:cool1: I am so excited for you, single digits, online check in...I love when it gets to that part of the countdown!!

I LOVE the outfit you put together, that is so adorable, where did you get the zebra mickey?? I personally like it with the red bow...it makes it scream Minnie and girly to me...with our without the bow or whichever bow you choose..it really is a very cute outfit!!

Ah! That outfit is sooooo cute! I would definitely go with the red bow! It screams Disney! I also think it looks cute the other ways, so what ever you decide to wear you'll be stylin! :)

Can't wait to hear about the run!

I think the red/white polka dot bow looks the best and great costume to wear there and you won't be to hot in it when you do the run. Have a great trip and can't wait to hear all about it. Take care and have fun.

Yea, you should definitely put it on your list. It's so cute and funny!

This is my favorite part of the countdown too! It finally starts to feel like it's getting closer but it also sadly seems to take the longest...

Thanks! I was so excited with how it turned out! I made the Zebra Mickey head. I just bought zebra print fabric from Jo-Ann Fabrics and then I ironed on Heat 'n' Bond (which is a form of an iron on transfer for fabric), traced the Mickey head, cut it out, and ironed it onto the shirt! It's really easy and fast!

Well, so far it looks like everyone likes the red bow so that's probably what I'll do! Thanks for your help! I have to admit, I was a little worried about my outfit because I was afraid people that didn't know we were running were going to think I was a weirdo in my spandex skirt or that people at the race that don't know about running skirts would think i was crazy running in a skirt lol! But, I figure I'll have my race bib on so everyone can tell I was a runner and as for the other part... I'll just hope people don't think I'm crazy enough to run (AND do a scavenger hunt and obstacle course) in a skirt without something under it :rolleyes:

Gah! I hate getting behind, I've missed so much! Wa-hoo for your online check in cha-cha (gotta remember that, LOVE it! :rotfl:) and your single digit dancing!!!

I'm another vote for the red bow on your ultra cute running outfit and I can't believe I've missed all your posts about your movie nights!!!!

I'm so glad you've been doing them, even if your DBF is sleeping thru most of them! They make the time fly by and planning them is half the fun.

I'm glad Lilo is OK, poor little thing. :goodvibes:

I am so impressed you made that zebra mickey head!! I am going to need to hire you for future disney and/or running outfits!!

I am so incredibly jealous that you are getting to run so many Disney races!!! I really wanted to do either Expediation Everest, DL, or W&D but none worked out. I'm signed up for the full marathon at Disney in January but that seems so far away!!!
Love the outfit! Totally adorable.

Amanda
