i did a google search for SSR running paths since we're staying there in may and found something that said you can run from SSR to OKW. looking on the map, i can't figure out how to do that - i thought that runners are not permitted on the golf cart paths.

does anyone know or have directions/map for a nice 4-5 mile run for someone staying at SSR (i'll be at the treehouses:cool1:)

thanks everyone! :hippie:

From THV you can cross over the water via the bridge from club house going to the first tee then turn right or go through SSR, DTD, West Side, around parking lot adjacent to water, stay on path until bridge by Building 56(55-?) of OKW.

From OKW you can take a path that runs along the side of the river the boats run on. There are options to head into THV and SSR or you can go all the way to DTD. The cast member at OKW said to stay off it after dark.
We only did the part from SSR to DTD since Rose's ankle was hurting.

thanks, guys. i did a satellite view on google maps and i think i follow what you are each talking about.

i just got a garmin watch that i can't seem to figure out how to use. hopefully by then i will learn and can use it on my run around the resorts and DTD to figure out mileage. it seems as though a run through SSR, OKW, and DTD would be nice - plenty of things to look at and no big chance of getting hit by a car (i took a wrong turn on a run by the epcot resorts and found myself jumping out of the way of a bus once. :scared:dummy)

When I was staying at OKW I ran the trail along the waterway almost daily to get enough miles in. It's pretty nice, but definitely don't go out there during the night. There are signs posted that do say that the trail is only open between dawn and dusk.

Keep your eyes pealed for wildlife though! I saw a turtle on the side of the trail once, a few hawks, and all sorts of wildlife over there.

I definitely saw an alligator at OKW.

i definitely am going to be running on the treadmill instead :scared1:

if i saw a ss...sss....sssnake while i was running i'd probably have a heart attack. the only animals we see here in the bronx are at the zoo!

It was a little gator--sunning itself. And as soon as we got near it, it went in the water. Not scary. Really.:goodvibes

I've been doing this run for years. The best was many years ago when my son was about 10-12 and the THV were closed, we ran through there and saw several peacocks with their full colors showing. They were beautiful.

Stay off the path at night, not because of animal, but because the path is terrible disrepair. I don't think it's been touched since I started running there in the mid 1990s other than when they removed the exercise equipment from along side it. With all the service carts using it, there are ruts and potholes which are no big deal when you can see them, but can be dangerous at night.

To add some (uninteresting) mileage, once you get to DTD and loop back to the huge parking lot, I go up and down the rows. This is early in the morning and the lots are empty. It's safe; it's HUGE; it just boring.
