Runners....Question RE: Running Pain

I couldn't tell from the OP if the pain was more on one side than bilateral. This could help determine whether it's a hip flexor strain vs overuse injury. But either way, he should rest it. I know he doesn't want to seem like a slacker, but he can cause more injury if he pushes it when it's already strained, so he needs to give it some time to heal.

It's bi-lateral and equally bad on both sides. That leads me to believe it is an overuse type of injury. I always thing that a "regular" injury often just happens to one affected area versus the exact same areas on both sides.

My thought is IT band. Google and see if that is where he feels the pain. Some folks are more prone to pain there than others. Some can manage it with self massage with a special rolling bar or a foam roller...hurts like heck though if the IT band is the culprit. I have known one or two who had to stop
running all together.

The bad runs from close to the side of the thigh near the hip and goes down the side of the leg coming towards the front and attaching near the knee.

For me---one leg is sensitive towards the top and less so towards the bottom.

Just a thought. Unless the pain is debilitating, one can run with it with some TLC if I recall correctly.

Hope his pain is nothing major.
