Rundisney takes meet-ups on the road!

Nice idea....but the first-come/first-served approach means only those who are constantly connected to Twitter or WDW Blog will ever know about it in time to sign up--and even then, these things fill in minutes. The Atlanta one is already closed.

Just wish they would make it available to a wider audience than the social-media set.

Are they coming to you next ?! What do you think about this new event?

I'm pumped !!! Hope they come to AZ or TX!!!

Great news - thanks so much for posting! I just signed up for mobile updates on Twitter (even though I don't tweet) so that I can stay in the loop.

On an unrelated topic, your screen name always looks SO familiar to me and I couldn't figure out why . . . until it clicked and I looked it up . . . we were in the final round of the Moms Panel search together three years ago!! :wave2:

It's a small world after all! Lol

Did you make the panel? Still trying? :)

I made the list for Atlanta! Are there any other DISers heading to the first "On the Road" meet up?

Congrats! Two disboard friends- saysay and tinkeramy are hoping to be there too!

No, didn't make it. I thought about trying again - one of the then-current panelists (Joel) is from my hometown, so I thought I might have a better chance another year when I'd create more geographic diversity. But the process was a bit stressful with all the long waits in between rounds. So while my boys encouraged me to try again, my husband preferred that I did not! I just hopped over to your blog and I see that you applied again this year - good luck!!! I'll be rooting for you!

Congratulations! Excited to hear more about it!

I agree. I'd love it if RunDisney came to Seattle or Vancouver, but I doubt I'd get in. I already check the Disney Parks Blog more often than I should when I'm supposed to be working and I've never seen one of the announcements before it's already full.

I get that RunDisney is looking for people who are active on social media because they're the ones who'll keep promoting the brand and spreading the word. But I have to admit that it irks me to see the same bloggers always going to every event.

I've never even tried to get into any of the race-based meetups, first because it wasn't on my radar and later because they didn't mesh with my schedule. But I am not hugely active on social media, not a blogger, and did get into this one. I just randomly looked at my phone as I was getting in the car and saw the twitter notification. I sent the e-mail at least 20 minutes after the announcement came out. There was certainly an element of luck in terms of timing (we were about to drive home from a vacation and if we'd gotten on the road as early as I liked I would have been driving and missed it entirely), but it didn't take any special social media cred on my part.

First, congratulations Sarah! Second, thanks for sharing your experience - this is exactly what I wanted to hear! I'm not even on facebook and only follow twitter for runDisney. I love to read blogs, but don't have one. I'm learning about new social media sites from our teen boys all the time (wow - hard to monitor them in all those different places, but that's another topic!) But I was very proud of myself for figuring out how to set the notification for runDisney tweets on my phone yesterday. So I'm happy to hear that you're in via that method with no additional social media cred!

I got into the tink meet up without any social media cred other than my personal FB page. It's not a requirement. im now active on twitter and fb and have a blog but i havent always been.

Those of us on SM hear about the opportunities first. Which is why the same ones attend multiple meet ups. I'm hoping the on the road meet ups spread that out though!

If you really want to go, getting a twitter account and having rD notifications turned on is your best bet.

Congrats to everyone getting to go! I'd love to hear all about it!

Pixarmom- yes, I think having a panelist in your hometown could be a disadvantage for your own chances. Can't Joel move?! ;)

The runDisney "On The Road" meet up is early Saturday morning so I'm heading down to Atlanta on Friday. I should be checked by 7pm. Are there any DISers or runDisney fans that would like get together for a casual group dinner that night? Any Atlanta residents that can recommend a place to eat?

It's only a 2-mile run but we'll excuse the meal as "carb-loading" anyway. :thumbsup2

I'll be at the meetup tomorrow! I've tried (unsuccessfully) to get into several meetups during the race weekends but I'm so excited to be going to the first on the road meetup. I'm hoping they'll do a preview of the 2014 New Balance shoes.
