runDisney TA help. Is there a deadline? What happens to unsold bibs?

I just found out I'll be on a work trip in Orlando the week before Princess so I'm thinking to make it a last minute runDisney weekend. There's still registration open for the half so I feel confident that I can at least register for that through runDisney. However, I've been toying with the idea to also run the 10K and unfortunately it's sold out.

I've found a few travel agents that still have challenge and/or 10K bibs but I'm not really thrilled with the idea of going that route because of all the package requirements. Do the travel agents have a deadline to sell their bibs? Are the unsold bibs ever given back to runDisney?

I guess what I'm really wondering is by when do I need to decide and is there any hope at all more bibs will magically appear on the runDisney site?

Yes travel agents do have a deadline but I wouldn’t rely on their deadline to get you a bib. They could sell out before that. Princess is really the only weekend now that still sells well.

Thanks for the reply. I know there's the risk of sell out. I was just trying to gauge how quickly I need to make a decision.

Obviously, the sooner the better. But does that mean in the next few days or the next couple of weeks? The race itself is only 7 weeks away so I know I have to figure it all out rather soon.

Typically, I would start planning my trips about a year in advance which allows ample time for research. That's not going to be the case this time and I can live with that. However I would like to know how much time I do have and maybe there's no definitive answer but thought this would be the place to get someone's best guess.

I believe rD closed off TAs right before Christmas. They were given some extra time as well to sell what they had I think too. So I would say at least a few weeks or so before the race.

The easiest thing to do is look and see how many bibs TAs still have available in their inventory and then decide if it's worth it for you to wait to pull the trigger or if you want to do it now.

If there are bibs left at the deadline, they'll first start waiving requirements and then offer some kind of deal. I don't recall this being done with Princess in recent memory. TAs basically "pre-buy" their bibs that they are required to sell as a condition of being a RunDisney TA. Those don't go back to RunDisney after the TA deadline - the TA simply eats the cost of unsold bibs, hence the sales.

Also, a TA can waive the hotel requirement first if their required booking allotment via RunDisney is spoken for while still having bibs available.

Deadline is generally a month out.

I know I'm not really answering your posted question, but it looks like there are still 10K and challenge bibs left for Princess? If you look at the RunDisney site, it says everything except the Half is sold out. But if you click through to the actual registration platform (after you sign in, etc.), all the races show up as available. I would post a screenshot but I'm new to the forum and haven't quite figured out how to do that yet

Oh, sorry! I checked a few days ago and saw the 10K was still available. Looks like it's only the challenge now :/. My bad!

Thanks everyone for your input! I was planning to go ahead and register for the half then play a wait and see game for the 10K. I've never run a 10K at Disney and I'm curious what it's like.

When @kchen mentioned there were still Challenge spots open once inside the registration, I couldn't resist! Look out Disney, here I come!

Now to try and convince someone to along for the ride...
