On Friday morning, I had the opportunity to be one of 20 runners to run/walk with Jeff Galloway around the World Showcase!
I left AKL at about 5:50, and took a taxi over to EPCOT. It was completely surreal to see the park both dark and empty:
Once everyone was there, they gave us FREE RunDisney tech shirts. Super cute. (This picture is obviously not from the same day):
We talked a little bit about RunDisney and the upcoming Half Marathon, and then, we were off. We did a run/walk ratio of 60/30 seconds, at a pretty fast clip. We did two loops of the World Showcase, led by a CM on a Segway.
It was fun to run/walk with so many different people. The walk breaks were very interesting. I'm not sure they worked very well for me, because I find it hard to get running again at a fast enough clip. It was great to try it, though, with someone as knowledgeable as Jeff is.
After the second lap, we took a group photo:
And then photos with a special guest on the course:
There was a Q&A session after, where we talked about injuries, nutrition, the run/walk method, triathlons (someone asked Jeff if he advocated the swim/float/swim method), pacing, runDisney events, the Goofy challenge training, and a bunch of other stuff I'm probably forgetting now.
We finished at about 8:30. Jeff gave us all signed photos of him in front of the castle. What a GREAT guy.
It was the perfect start to a wonderful weekend. Yeah, my legs were probably tired for having run/walked three miles on Friday morning, but I didn't help matters by walking around the parks all day Friday and Saturday. It's all part of being at Disney, which is so incredible.
Thanks, runDisney.
