Run Now! It’s Wine 0’Clock in WDW…Cupcakes Gone W&D16

Hello, I am Kafi and I am a Mom of 7 very busy kiddos and wife of 1 very work traveling husband. As you can imagine life around these parts gets o_O so my happy place is wogging (I am happy graduate of the Jeff Galloway love him and am thankful for the run/walk method) and planning family vacations which include most of the time a trip to Disney every year or every other year. Well up until around 4 yrs ago, this use to be a very simple task, I would pick the least crowded time and book and off we would go. I have been a long time lurker on the Disboard for several years. I have loved trip planning from all the vast information the DIS provide. One day, I happen to like any other female, want to lose weight for a trip. Someone on the community board suggested W.I.S.H. boards. I had never heard of them and the first thread I stumbled upon were people coming back from the Princess Half Marathon. What, I can lose weight and go to Disney at the same time. I read the entire thread and made a promise to myself that I would join the crowd in 2012.

I literally started a C25K program and have not looked back since. I have run most distances except the dreaded marathon and um...... That will remain a wish and a dream. Somewhere along the way between the birth of my last child and running injuries that move from here to there, I have fell hard off the running tangent. I am trying to find my way back and every step of the way has been hard. For now I am going back to the genesis of things and hopefully working my way back. Some things about me, my house is super loud, like every day all day until everyone is asleep someone is either talking to me, screaming for my attention or if you are a teen, making me yell:furious:! I love my life and I love my family, there is no other place or job in the world would I rather have than being a wife/mom. However my life is loud....so when I have time of quiet, I tend to relish them. Which causes me to struggle with small talk and friendships. I never thought I would ever be a part of a virtual running group like the cup cakes. Over the past almost 2 yrs come February, I have grown attached
to some special ladies whom I have never met. There are two great cupcake memories that are forever dear to me. The first will always be the flats. These ladies took us to The Princess Glass Slipper weekend in early 2015 and made sure we didn't miss a thing. Well, me I believe I snuck ack to Texas one night.

I missed the first meet up as my husband SUPRISE.....had to work. I am so very excited to be joining on the 2016 Wine and Dine Cocktailing around the World trip. I am super excited about this trip. The Princess half weekend will always have a genuine place in my heart as that is where my running career started. However the Wine and Dine is the where it's at! Food and Wine and Wine and Food. Now we are talking!!! Ok enough about me let the planning begin.

SO far the only expectation that I have is a bed at POP Century ( a solo trip and my husband is already tightening his wallet :rolleyes2. So the more budget friendly I can make it will be fine. I am simple and easy to please so the only thing is non- negotiable is my GIRLS WEEKEND so 357 days till I hit the road:drive:!!!

Ok, just saw that they have released Wine and Dine dates Nov 4-6! So, let the planning begin...

Whet Your Appetite Wednesday:
Favorite Meal Narcoossee's &
Favorite Dessert
Almond Crusted Cheesecake at Narcoossee’s

Trying to find ways to pass the next 357 days, so Wednesday is going to be officially called “Whet Your Appetite Wednesday” because “Cupcakes” like eating and most of this trip will be focused around Food & Wine. Since the menus are not up for next year until the mid Spring, I figured we could pass the time away with some of our favorite dining experiences or foods from around WDW!

Today, my favorite place for a dress me up celebration dinner (plus a great view of Wishes while dining)…Narcoossee’s at the Grand Floridian.

7.jpg
I am totally a surf and turf kinda girl and Narcoossee's does a great job with their steaks (and that is saying a lot since I live in steak country). Along with a bottle of wine (and their hot fresh bread) the meal is almost perfect because you have to have dessert...

11.JPG 8.JPG

Narcoossee's has my MY HANDS DOWN FAVORITE DESSERT in ALL OF WDW…

ALMOND CRUSTED CHEESECAKE

And please don’t ask me to share or even give you a bite! It was hard enough sharing with Flat Debra!

18.JPG

In fact it is hard not to lick the plate clean...Cammy tried. The family next to us left about half of several servings behind and we both were tempted to get the plates and finish the cheesecakes off for them. SHAMEFUL! I have the recipe, hmmm maybe I should attempt it for Thanksgiving?

So what is one of your favorite places to eat and favorite thing to get there?

I was so excited to finally be able to add all my dates to my "trip box" on Touring Plans today. I am so ready for some yummy F&W food...& hopefully one or two of the dining experiences. I hate the "lull" period where we cant really plan anything & park hours are just predicted. I can't wait to make plans for real...where we can really put pencil to paper & figure things out (other than just our collection of ideas we have going right now).

Thankfully we have come up with ways to pass the time...if I can keep up with each day! I love how we are already planning and agree on sooooo much! Poor Amy, she just gets to go along for the ride!

Our collection of thoughts is LONG...:rolleyes1:scared1::scratchin

Hello, I am Kafi and I am a Mom of 7 very busy kiddos and wife of 1 very work traveling husband.

I am still in awe of 7 children!!!

I can so understand! I love the quiet time that running allows me...I am a loner by nature and really do not like people around...I sometimes wish that I had a huge group of friends and often get jealous of those that do...but when I am with a large group I can go 2 directions...the life of the party or the wall flower...totally insecure with female friendships because I have been burned so many times and BLOWN UP WAY TOO MANY BRIDGES afterwards.

I never thought I would ever be a part of a virtual running group like the cup cakes. Over the past almost 2 yrs come February, I have grown attached to some special ladies whom I have never met. Pretty amazing ladies, I have to agree! I need to take a picture of where the flats are and post them. I could not let you miss out on all the fun! I am so THANKFUL that you are part of my life Kafi (Ka-fee....or COFFEE as I like to call you! As you are my pick me up!)

I missed the first meet up as my husband SUPRISE.....had to work. I am so very excited to be joining on the 2016 Wine and Dine Cocktailing around the World trip. I am super excited about this trip. FOOD IS TOTALLY WHERE IT IS AT...we are going to have so much fun!!!

DEBRA already has this trip on the her DH calendar and there will be NO scheduling over it! And we will work on making it budget friendly for you!

Ok, just saw that they have released Wine and Dine dates Nov 4-6! So, let the planning begin...

I am super excited you are joining us next year Kafi! We had so much fun on our "flat" trip & I can't wait for a "non flat" trip. I am still in awe of you having 7 kids. My life is hectic enough with 4. Excited to plan with you over the next year. Bring on all the yummy food!!

Whet Your Appetite Wednesday...Debra's take

My contribution to "whet your appetite Wednesday"...are you REALLY making me choose just 1 item?? Really?? Just one?? Well, seeing as we have more Wednesdays, I will post my favorite celebration restaurant as well...

Le Cellier...the cheddar cheese soup & filet are amazing. I am excited to be going back next month. All of my pictures from inside Le Cellier always turn out dark with the lighting, so I am borrowing this picture. This cheese soup with the pretzel breadstick...yummy, yummy!! AND...the fact that I can get a small serving of this & the Le Cellier Filet at F&W next year...um, yes please!! :cloud9:

So what is one of your favorite places to eat and favorite thing to get there?

Those that follow my trip reports should know I love food & wine from Disney. I have a lot of favorites but the place I really crave now on a regular basis while at home:

One of my newest favorites now is Boathouse!

This is a recent addition to Disney Springs having only opened in May 2015. We've eaten there twice so far and we will be going back at least twice in our next couple of trips.

There are 3 main items I love there!

z9Yki6K.jpg

Firecracker Shrimp - Laughing Bird Shrimp, Sriracha Mayo, Shiahito Peppers

vDs0cBo.jpg

Filet, 8 Ounce - Bearnaise and Boathouse Steak Sauce

7JbnpxL.jpg

House Made Parker Rolls w/ Butter

There is also this awesome dessert if you are there with at least 4 people (I would never attempt it with less!)

pNLQSF9.jpg

S'mores Baked Alaska

Everything we've had has been excellently made and even in the most simple of items, somehow create something crave-able like those super soft parker house rolls.

You ladies are making me want to lick the computer screen!!!
I have zero to contribute, zilch, nada. Because my family are very picky eaters. So we are subject to counter service. This is why I am so over the moon about Food and Wine festival. Cue the sunshine and rainbows of me eating an adult meal:cloud9:.

Le Cellier is I'm hoping on our food tour.
Melissa, I saw Boathouse and assumed it was a boathouse where people were getting off the ferry! I know so much to learn on a non kidlet trip.

He's the super fit one. I'm someone who runs because I like cocktails and fine dining. RunDisney also gives me excuses for more trips to Disney (although I only live 3 hours away so I go a lot in comparison to many of the other cupcakes) Food & Wine Festival is my favorite time of year at Walt Disney World. I've been going to the festival since its initial year 20 years ago (and too young to enjoy the cocktail part!) and have gone most years. Luckily, my husband understands my love of F&W and its quickly become his favorite time of year, now that Star Wars Weekends are cancelled.

I haven't had the happiest time with running. When I finished my first half marathon during the inaugural Disneyland Star Wars Half Marathon (b/c I'm crazy & did Rebel Challenge for my first), I was so disenchanted with running and it started a mental spiral that took months to get through. During my break from running after the Glass Slipper Challenge (which went better mentally than Rebel did), I found a love for yoga. The combination of yoga to balance out my running has made the training since September start out in a much better place.

I will not be running the Wine & Dine Half Marathon as I'm not a night time runner. I shall be cheering on those running & drinking at the after party and most likely running the Jingle Jungle 5K!

My Upcoming Running Plans
Thanksgiving Gobble Gobble 4 Miler
Disneyland Star Wars 5K
Disneyland Star Wars Rebel Challenge (10K + Half)
WDW Glass Slipper Challenge (10K + Half)
WDW Star Wars Dark Side Challenge (10K + Half)

My Favorite Disney Cocktails

The Hanger
ETfdGtO.jpg

Cool-Headed Monkey - Starr African Rum, Van Der Hum Tangerine Liqueur, Fresh Lime Juice, Watermelon & Pineapple Juice

Trader Sam's Grog Grotto
4XsNldV.jpg

Krakatoa Punch - Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, Pyrat XO Reserve Rum, Orgest, Sam's Gorilla Grog and Hibiscus Grenadine.

Debra-Never been...although I have tried the pretzel bread, filet and soup during F&W...funny how we live in steak country and that is what we gravitate to at WDW!

Kafi-That is what I like so much about Girls trips...we get to do all those things we long to do when we have our children with us. Who says Disney is just for kids? We will certainly make up for your lack of dining experiences on this trip! I think after our trip I will have to starve for a couple of months!

Melissa-OH MY GOSH look at the Baked Alaska!
:worship::worship::worship: I wonder if we will work Disney Springs into this trip? I have avoided it the last couple of years because 1. I HATE CONSTRUCTION and 2. NOT A SHOPPER...but I certainly have to put Boathouse on my list at some point in future trips. I can't believe how many RunDisney events you have coming up...I am a bit jealous for the Disney time...I just wish there were more themed races for me...so not a Star Wars fan...and my pockets were deeper. SIGH...but the good thing is I get to lick the screen on your TR (which now that I am on DIS more I will be doing lots more of).

The baked Alaska was so good! The construction is finally getting better around Disney Springs (provided you take a bus - driving there is an utter nightmare!) They have been adding a ton of stuff around there with restaurants, bars, gelato, soon to be a new cupcake shop, and so much more. I'm not a huge shopper either (although my long October Trip - I spent a lot more than normal) Trips to WDW are easy when you can drive and have DVC so the costs can be super low. Tons more food porn coming up in my F&W Trip Report!

I read your Boathouse review yesterday & it is TOTALLY on my list to try!! I am also excited to see what Rick Bayless's place will be like when it opens next year.

I'm excited for his place, STK (supposed to be a super high end steakhouse), and Art Smith's new place! It will make me actually want to stay at Saratoga Springs for a long trip and just eat at DTD every night!

Now ,I do like to shop and the Havaianas design your own flip flop shop was down my alley. They have really put some nice shops and updated Disney Springs a lot. We drove it was not so bad, we really like the parking lot and the ability to see how many spaces were on each row so no go round and round in a circle.

How could I forget Art Smith's place??!! I am super excited for that one too. DTD is going to have a lot of great options next year.

Tammie, we NEED to get to Boathouse!! It looks amazing!

I can't believe you have never been to Le Cellier??!! We are eating there again at the end of our trip next month & my older kids love it just as much as we do. They talk about the soup ALL THE TIME!

It’s 5 O’Clock Friday
at Hurricane Hanna’s Pool Side Grill

hurricanehanna.jpg

In order to pass the time away, instead of Cupcake Friday’s we are going to take a look at cocktails around the world…since we are partly fueled by cocktails. Maybe we can find them a little more readily then the cupcake disappointment we experienced on our PHM Cupcake Crawl!

We are going to begin our cocktail journey around WDW in a spot that I hope to frequent A LOT during this trip (as long as Elsa decides to stay FAR AWAY!)…Stormalong Bay ‘s own Hurricane Hanna’s at the Beach Club.

First let’s take a few moments to sigh over this pool….

disney-s-beach-club-resort.jpg

IMG_6320-1024x683.jpg stormalongair.jpg

The number one resort choice for a few of us is Beach Club…we will know in a few short weeks if we are going to be able to make this happen! Hoping for a huge dusting of pixie dust will come our way!

Now let’s take a look at the drink menu and see if anything catches my attention…

So bartender…

Pour me somethin' tall an' strong,
Make it a Captains Mai Tai and Moscato Colada

It's only half-past twelve but I don't care.
It's five o'clock somewhere.

Captain’s Mai Tai

disney-s-typhoon-lagoon.jpg

Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, Amaretto and Tropical Juices topped with a flot of Myer’s Original Dark Rum

Moscato Colada

Frozen Skyy Infusions Moscato Grape Vodka and Bols Blue Curaco blended with Pina Colada mix and topped with Passion Fruit Foam
So what are you ordering?

So many places to dine...so little time. With F&W not sure how we will make it to DS (so weird not to call it DTD)! This might have to go on our marathon trip list!

Not a fun of Art Smith...but Rick Bayless!

Not sure why I have not been to Le Cellier...probably because I like hanging out at Rose & Crown in the evening for dinner so we have a spot for Illuminations! I love my steak, but a good portion of Fish & Chips with Malt Vinegar is hard to beat!

Yum, fish and chips!!!

Its a toss up between the Banana Cabana and the Mango Margarita for me!
Sighing at the pool! Ok so will I be committing the big Disney faux pas if I come hang out seeing as POPs pool ain't as cool as this?
