Run HOW FAR?! Disney 1/2 & Solo fun! Jan PTR...omg leave Thurs! Itinerary posted 1/5

hey guys!! Just a quick update to tell you I'm alive :)

Little update... I finally caved and went to the doctor just to double check it was just my IT band. And he said it was and recommended physical therapy. My first PT appointment is tomorrow but the doc said I can try to do some light running before then.

I didnt get a chance to really run last week but I did run Monday and today. 2.5 miles on Monday and then 6 today and the knee was good! I wore a wrap around my leg to help the IT Band and it definitely worked. I only wore it on my left leg and that felt perfect...and of course my right barely started bothering me, so time to go buy a wrap for that leg! ugh! :(

My shuttle launch trip is in SIX DAYS!!! EEK!!!! I can't believe it creeped up so fast! I'll post more in the next few days about it. :)

Hey girl! Just wanted to say hi and I hope you're training is going well. The half will be here before we know it.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!!!

Hey guys! Thank you! :) Hope you had a great holiday!

Training is going...bleh....my IT band got really bad at one point and I've been going to physical therapy for it. Going to try a long run on Sunday!

Just want to say hi and I haven't forgotten about you guys! I take the GMATs on Satuarday so hopefully after thats over I can get back here regularly!

Okay! Thanks for checking in. I was a little worried.

Okay, I must confess. I've been lurking on your pre-trip reports and your trip reports and now your "training log". For months. And I have to chime in now.

Please note: I'm 46, so I've got a few more years on my running knees than you.

Sounds like I had the SAME pain as you. Left knee, inside. Only hurt to run and climb and decend stairs. Went to the chiropractor. He said I needed to stretch the butt muscle and my quads more. I tried that. Quit running for two weeks when I went to WDW in September. Everything healed in that window because I noticed I could do stairs painlessly. Came home and tried running again along with LOTS of stretching. The pain came back. This time I went to a knee/hip specialist who said I probably had some swelling in the ligament or the bursa sac between the ligament (bursitis!). He gave me a cortisone shot right in the ligament. It hurt like a %$&#@ for two days (which in my book meant he got the shot right where the pain was eminating). And sure enough. I'm running pain-free now! I ran twice in NYC's Central Park during Thanksgiving week during my vacation and I've been running since I got back. 3-5 miles a day. No pain.

Who knows how long the cortisone solution will last. 6 weeks? Or forever? Only time will tell.

Good luck with your training and your marathon next month!

Good luck on the GMATs

Thanks! GMATs went decent... might want to take them again though because math killed me :( BOOO!

welcome over here! I know I've been quiet for awhile but I'm hoping that will all change today or tomorrow with some more updates to my Sept trip report!

How's your knee feeling now? Hopefully you have no pain!!! Are you doing Disney at all?

Hey everyone! I'll quickly give you a mini update since OMG the race is less than THREE weeks away!!!

Definitely starting to freak out!

So training has been slowly moving along. I know I mentioned I have had some IT Band problems so I've been going to physical therapy every week. It's kinda helping but honestly? Not much. Even the therapist said the only real sure way to make the pain go away is to stop running completely for a few weeks. yeah...she and I both know that's not possible so close to the race so we're just trying to control it. Massages, strengthening exercises, electrostimulation, everything.

I also now run with an IT Band Wrap above both knees. I feel like an old lady but WOW it makes SUCH a difference! I ran 11 miles 3 weeks ago and 12 miles this past Saturday and felt NO pain. Slightly sore the next day but barely. So it looks like the wraps are working for me. I'll keep wearing them until the race just to be safe.

As for the trip itself? It's all coming along as well. I was able to get a slight discoutn on the rooms using the AP rate. Kind of a pain because I had to split it into 3 seperate reservations. Hopefully we won't have to switch rooms at all though. Saved us each about $50 though!

I'll post an updated itinerary hopefully in the next few days. Still unsure about meals but i do have ADRs so I'm not worried. I'll just cancel them if I don't want to eat a big meal that day.

OK...time for some work...I do miss you guys though! :(

sorry that the pain is still there.

Hopefully the run will be pain free?

Good attitude about ADRS always better to have them and cancel!:thumbsup2

Thanks Jordan! When I wear the wrap on my knees I'm pain free so I'll just have to wear them for the race! :)

Electrostimulation... yikes!

It's actually a lot better than it sounds..it's quite fabulous! hahaha! it's like the best massage ever

okay good to know!

the trip is coming up soon!!!!!

do you run in the snow? or is there somewhere indoors where you run?

I actually run outside. it sounds horrible but it's not too bad. I just bundle up and after the first mile I'm warmed up and can keep on going. They plow the park fairly well by me and luckily for my run on Saturday we missed the snow by an hour.

I can't run on a treadmill at ALL. It's wayyyyyyy too boring for me!

Surprisingly there were a TON of people running Saturday morning! We started to count and then gave up around 50...and that was about mid-way through the run. It's a huge park and the best places to run in our area so that's pretty much where everyone goes.

We are still kooky though lol

Well, as long as it doesn't involve needles…

hahaha, definitely not! i wouldn't do it if it did! blehhhhh

Hey girl. Just wanted to say hey. I hope I get to see you at the race!!!
