Rumors that Disney is in negotiations to sell Star Wars back to George Lucas!

You are a super interesting Lady, literally the only person I have ever even heard of that reads the high republic stuff. My local bookstore says they sell maybe 5 books a year in that entire collection. Your knowledge of the entire SW universe is pretty incredible, I ain't gonna lie.
I’ve been a fan since I was 8 so that knowledge has accumulated over time and I just really love the majority of the SW universe but thank you.

The High Republic has a really big fanbase on Twitter, Tumblr and Reddit but maybe you just haven’t seen it in your circles. There’s a lot of love out there for it and Daniel Jose Older is always interacting with fans of it on Twitter.

I need to give twitter another try. It was so full of toxic political crap during Covid, I just got so sick of it. I think I still have an account?

DJO is great, I met him at a book festival and he was super nice. Most of the SW authors are super nice to fans. I’ve hung out with a few of them, and I’ve moderated panels at Dragon Con with Tim Zahn and Chuck Wendig. (The fact that Tim Zahn knows my name is still completely bonkers to me.)

I hope you are right. Lord knows my stock holdings need some positive news as the below $90 a share is a territory, is an area I never really expected Disney to be in.

The flurry of box office bombs in the theater is sure not helping my hopes of a speedy financial turnaround.

I also wonder how the money owed for Hulu will play into the financials as well?

And you got Indiana Jones coming out next week, which will also bomb.

An analysis recently showed Disney has lost $890 million on their last 8 box office releases.

You would think with all this failure, people would be losing their jobs. But Disney keeps them in place and they keep making the same garbage that audiences have made clear that they don't want.

The failing studios division is being supported by the parks, which is now finally showing weakness in attendance because they've jacked the prices up so high. If those numbers continue to fall, this company is in trouble. Because the management is extraordinarily stubborn. They don't make any changes. The weak attendance also suggests Disney has maxed out their possible Magic Kingdom revenue.

Well, people ARE losing their jobs. 🙁

Well if the numbers are true, I have a pretty difficult time believing The High Republic is the glowing success suggested earlier in this thread.

From what I can find, there is no official release of book sales numbers. There are some estimates. Early books were on the NYT Bestsellsers List. It might be complicated too because the publishing initiative had several levels, adult novels, YA books, youth books, comics - they don't all sell the same nor do they have the same expectations. Either way, I could find no hard numbers on sales. It certainly does have fans though, as evidenced by the large and popular panel at Celebration this year.

I can tell you that that website does have an agenda and an axe to grind, and they are apt to spin the numbers a certain way. Of course, Disney would probably spin them the other way. The truth though is unknown, though I would say that if the books were not selling well, then Disney wouldn't continue to make them. As of now, they are continuing to make them, plus the new Young Jedi Adventures cartoon and the upcoming live-action series.
