Yeah - the idea of a supposedly sentient creature that looks like a rock and can't communicate is certainly unique. Personally, I'd REALLY like it if he was in fact just a rock and it was all a put on. Again, you don't have to like it, but it is certainly creative.

I feel there's a massive rigidity to Star Wars fans. It's probably why I didn't enjoy the prequels as much. A lot of what happened on screen didn't jive with what I had been told in the OT. I never saw that Obi Wan and Anakin were "good friends". I didn't really see that Anakin was seduced by the Dark Side in so much as he was desperate to save the woman he loved at any cost. Yoda seemed to be a totally different person than what he was in the OT. I am not a fan of twirling, Tasmanian Devil Yoda with a lightsaber.

But you know what, ultimately who cares? It's George's work and he's been making changes to it for decades. That's the thing, the original movie was lightning in a bottle. So there was no real blue print where Darth Vader was originally Anakin or Luke's father. That didn't come about till Empire's 2nd draft. Leia wasn't Luke's twin sister until the Jedi 2nd draft. George still had plans for a 2nd trilogy where Luke's sister was on the other side of the galaxy and the Emperor would appear in that. He then decided he didn't want to keep going so he truncated it all. It was all fairly fungible and the Clone Wars were designed to fill in the gaps.

You know what gets me? Obi-Wan says in A New hope, "Ani was a good friend." He says "Ani." I always thought it was, "...and he was a good friend." It was mind-blowing to realize that one.

Don't have to read anything to realize that is one the single most stupid things I have ever seen in my life. I literally feel a little less intelligent after reading that character and ship description. I mean it is literally the equivalent of My son named "Boy" needed to go the store called "Market" so he took his automobile named "Car".

Can I just jump in to say I also regret Mara Jade never arriving in the new canon? She was my favorite character after Luke...and I LOVED her 1st book appearances...I could have watched a full movie just with her and Luke in their arc.

Well, you got your wish. A grumpy old monk who gave up to die alone, broken, and gloomy. Fell prey to one last little hologram party trick and it took a little to much out of him. Died a failed man's death.

Sigh. He gave his life for his sister and for the Rebellion to live on. Just like Obi Wan did for him. And he did it without killing a single person, which completely fit with the Jedi teachings of Yoda. And again, Lucas was also going to make him a grumpy old monk who had lost everything as well.

I wish Magic Box Abrams would've included some nod to Mara Jade.

oh there was a very conspiratorial fan theory (which I was DEFINITELY not a proponent of... ahem...) that the rock Luke is facing at the end of The Force Awakens was actually Mara Jade's gravestone.

Well, I'm not sure that he saw that part as a mistake. I'm not sure that I do either. It did work for thousands of years after all. Then came this Skywalker dude....
