Rumors that Disney is in negotiations to sell Star Wars back to George Lucas!

Luke had plenty of setbacks. He got his tail kicked often, lost his hand, had to be rescued, etc. Rey won her first ever fight with a powerful dark force user. She outmatched Kylo physically, mentally, and with force abilities despite not having one ounce of training. Kylo had been trained and molded by a multiple mentors for many years to hone his force and battle abilities, but was no match for the amazing wonder Rey.

Why did Rey so easily kick Kylo's rear? Not sure maybe because she is a Mary Sue with plot armor.

I do agree with you that they will likely give Rey an actual struggle / fail in the next installment. They have caught so much crap about her being a Mary Sue, that I fully expect them to try and retroactively fix that fundamental flaw in her.
I always assumed it was because Kylo Ren took a bowcaster shot to the gut.

That's part of it. Kylo Ren was also prone to letting rage cloud his judgement. Rey was actually already a trained fighter too - she had to be to survive on Jakku. Granted she used a staff instead of a light saber, but she was a skilled combatant.

I'm adding "Mary Sue" to my list of terms I never want to hear again. Especially because it's never used in the way it was actually intended, which was an old fanfic term.
Ugh, the memories unlocked of purple eyed mystery girls who transferred to Hogwarts and happened to be Voldemort’s child and Dumbledore’s grand daughter and captured to the attention of Harry or Draco or both and just so happened to have a lot of similarities with the teenaged fanfic author…

Ask any martial artist if being good with a staff makes you good with a sword? They will laugh you out of the room. I am very good with Archery equipment, that's like saying I am also incredible with a throwing knife. Not in the least, and frankly pretty ludicrous.

Once again all after the fact backstory and story correction crap to try and make something stupid make sense. Just say what you know should have happened. She should have gotten her rear kicked, horribly so! She then should have had a proper training montage and then she would have been better prepared next time. Guess what would have also happened? People would have begun to like her and cheer for the underdog. Boom, an actual character arc instead of a Mary Sue with cheat codes.

Plenty of people cheered for her just fine just like we cheered for a farm boy with virtually no combat experience who was able to dogfight against better trained Imperials and outlasted experienced Rebel pilots and was able to make a one and a million shot with the help of the Force.

Why do you always use so many superlatives? Was Rey actually "Incredible" with a sword? Not really - that fight isn't that one-sided. Also, we don't know that she didn't train with swords either - we jsut see her with a staff. Who did Kylo Ren leard sword fighting from? Luke? How do we knwo taht Rey's teacher on Jakku isn't ten-times the swordsman that Luke was. We don't. People always talk about how emo and lame Kylo Ren is, but when it comes to Rey, he's supposed to just dominate in any scenario.

I saw TFA 13 times in the theater, and the crowd cheered EVERY time she grabbed the lightsaber.

Kylo was certainly emo and lame, I will give you that. Yes, a powerful Jedi in training who had trained under real jedi / dark force users known to be some of the best fighters in the galaxy would easily kick her butt. Yes, Luke was a great swordsman, as evidence of his later fights with Vader. Would he have not even trained Ben in any of those skills in their many years together?

I will call BS on that. You may have cheered, but no possible way 13 times in the theater and all 13 times a significant portion of the crowd cheered at that one point in the movie. I will take things that never happened for 500 Alex.

I’ll never forget my 2nd viewing of TFA where a family with a boy aged around 9 and a girl aged around 6 were sitting a few seats down from me. The little girl had absolutely no interest in the film until Rey came on screen and then as soon as she did she sat down and I didn’t hear a peep from her until towards the end of the film when Anakin’s lightsaber went to Rey instead of Kylo and that’s when she jumped up from her seat and fist punched the air and yelled out “YES!”. And that’s what all that matters to me. I couldn’t care less about the supposed “deconstruction” of Luke. That little girl found a new hero that day. The children that grew up when the OT originally came already had their’s. George (🙄) has always said Star Wars is for kids and couldn’t understand why adults liked it as much as they did.

So, he's great and there's no way a girl from a desert, nowhere planet could beat him.

So, again, how is it that Luke can just hop in an X-Wing and outfly every other Rebel and all of the Imperial pilots, plus make an impossible shot using The Force, something that he just learned existed earlier that same day?

I fell in love with Rey when she sat down on her porch and put on an old Rebel helmet and pretended to be a fighter pilot. That girl's...a little odd. But it's a cool kind of odd!

That's a heart warming story, still doesn't make it make sense when she knows nothing about the force at that point and over overpowers the force ability of a trained force user. If monkeys had flown out of Kylo's butt and attacked Rey I am sure someone might have loved that. I mean it would have made about as much sense at least.

You’re just being ridiculous now and you know it. I’m telling you why representation matters. It has nothing to do with the scene itself.
