Perhaps it's because CM's can get in free anytime instead of just limited nights, but whatever the reason the past few weekends have been literally PACKED at Pleasure Island and it's not even tourist season yet.

I think the closure of RRBC has also shifted patrons to the other clubs; I've noticed 8TRAX playing more 80's tunes compared to 70's (although plenty of those too) and we've seen the RRBC house band playing on stage at Motion too a couple weekends ago.

So rumors of the demise of Pleasure Island may be premature. PI seems to be doing just fine in its current format.

I hope it prospers and gets back to its roots. We're not club people, usually visiting only the Comedy Warehouse and the Adventurers' Club, but I'd love to see the outdoor performances, junk food, and party atmosphere come back. I also think children don't belong there, but doubt that Disney will ever say "no" and let adults have their own place to play.

Going mostly by the crowd I see in the AC, I think free admission for CMs is a huge factor driving this. Also, there was a convention in town this past weekend--"convention season" (say mid-January through about April) tends to make PI and CityWalk busier than even Christmas week.

Have there been any bands in Motion since Hip Kitty that first weekend? I'm afraid that may have been a one-shot deal, which is a shame, because HK is my favorite band--will miss their monthly swing thru Orlando.

The band was in Motion for the "special event" weekend(Sweetheart Island for Valentines day) there was also a band and a dj on the waterfront stage at PI as well. The next event this will happen at is St' Pattys Day (weekent event also). From what I have heard the day they announced the closing of the RRBC to cast members, BET was also to be closed but was saved at the last minute to try out a new music fromat...old school soul, r&b and hip hop from 1998 and before is now all that can be heard at BET.

I'll have to check out the new format; hadn't heard that before. Might be a good niche given the large number of clubs around Orlando already playing hip hop. I think hip hop has peaked and is already on its way down. A lot of it sounds the same, there are lots of unpleasant lyrics and listening to thugs has gotten old. There haven't been any big new acts in at least a couple years. There will always be a place for upbeat singers like Rihanna but she sings pop, not hip hop. Even techno Mannequins plays a lot of her songs, albeit a faster-paced remix. Good info Hillary!
