Rumor: The Great Movie Ride closing for good?

They need to add attractions to this park - not take away and not even replace - just add!

Although there is no basis for my opinion, I do have to say that I sincerly DOUBT that they would tear down/close GMR. It is a staple of Disney, or at least MGM and it would be a shame and a mistake to get rid of it.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo..........:sad1:
Not my favorite ride! They can't do that surely? What's MGM without the GMR? Not a lot, really. Saying that though, it is my favourite park :)

I wonder if Disney comes down on CM's who "leak" out info like that - whether it's true or not.

I'm really surprised that they don't get in trouble for that.

Honestly, CM's aren't usually involved in hearing about stuff very early on to begin with. Unless you're friends with WDI people you would never hear anything until its about to open

This rumor has been circulating for at least 7 years now. It's my sister's favorite ride in all of WDW, so we've been really hyper aware of any news on the subject. So far it seems like there is talking of updating it some day and not completely tearing it down.

I had heard the rumor on another Disney podcast that I listen a few months ago that the Great Movie Ride was going to be going under a major renovation.

I think they had mentioned getting things like the first Busby Berkley scene fully operational again, getting rid of the Alien scene, adding in a Lord of the Rings scene, etc. Maybe updating the Indy scene to reflect the new movie. In short giving it a thorough overhaul. That was a rumor though.

It could use a major update!

Dd rode it for the first time this trip, when it was done she asked if that was all. She wasnt impressed!

TGMR definitely needs a major overhaul. It's my fave at the Studios too but it's old and tired - like me.

GMR needs a new script - BADLY! It's been the same for as long as I can remember.

"Ready when you are CB."
"It's the perfect job for me because I love the movies."
"And here we have one of my favorite tough guys, James Cagney."
"At least it can't get any woise. It's woise."

Zzzzzzzzz.....

I agree it could use a major facelift, but I hope they don't close it. Maybe with the Studio changes it will get that much need new script.

I love the GMR but have to wonder if Disney would want to continue to promote MGM movies if they are not getting anything from it.

Can you imagine the GMR with all Disney movies? Do not get me wrong, I love Disney movies however they cannot compete in the same category as the best movies of all time, especially musicals IMO.

Slightly Goofy, who spent a large part of NYD watching musicals, old ones!!!

:rotfl: on our last trip I mouthed one of the lines as the CM was saying it and they looked at me and sarcastically said "what? You've heard this before?" ;)

What about "What is this Joisey"..lol That always cracks me and my girls up..
We do love the ride, my 5 yo dd calls it the Wizard of Oz ride..lol , but it definitely could use to be updated a bit.

When we were on our way to MGM, this past trip, our boat driver told us that when MGM becomes Disney Studios that they might tear down The Great Movie Ride. I would be so upset if they did this, I love that ride. For us it is a must do on every trip! Has any one else heard this rumor? Please tell me this is not true!!

Since the CM's working at the Great Movie Ride just got new costumes, I suspect that's only a rumor.

I hadn't heard that and hope it is not true. But I do believe it needs a major updating...it is getting kind of old.

I agree...it definitely needs some TLC. I'm not a huge fan of the ride, but I do think I'd be a bit sad if they closed it for nostalgic reasons.

I'm always amazed that no matter who the guide is, the clips they show at the end of the ride are always "some of their favorites".;)

BTW - Did anyone else know that Mickey's name in "Fantasia" was Yensid, which is Disney spelled backwards.:teacher:

;)

Are you kidding? Most of the Disney movies ARE musicals and well known and some of the best loved movies of all time. Mary Poppins for one.

I think GMR needs a facelift, as does most of MGM. That used to be our favorite park but it has really gone downhill.
