But I understand that Disney's Boardwalk Resort is scheduled for a major rehab.

No details.....no start date......just very reliable source.

Will update this info as soon as I know anything.

I was going to stay at the Boardwalk next spring but realized (according to the schedule they seem to have been following) that the Boardwalk was due for it's remodel soon. I am going to wait until it is done to stay there. So... where to stay next year????

The exterior recently was completely rehabbed, so I suspect that's not the target of any upcoming rehab. I also believe the DVC villas were rehabbed recently. So perhaps this is the long-awaited redressing of the BoardWalk Inn hotel rooms?

seems like disney are overhauling a lot of the resorts at the moment, poly, CR, WL, ASMu, sems like they are trying to improve the room standards so not to lose bookings to offsite resorts maybe

I think it's wonderful that Disney is paying so much attention to the room decor and keeping up with rehabs. However, I'll be sad to see the old BWI decor go--if I could decorate my home similarly to that I would. I love the cottage/upscale feel it has. Maybe someone will sell that drapery fabric on eBay.

I have heard ESPN moving from the Boardwalk to DQ. DQ will close down sometime next year (2007) and ESPN will take over the DQ building.

My guess - Disney gets more rent and ESPN gets more guests to visit them since they will be located in a more open public area.

Maybe that would have to do with the Boardwalk rehab.

Just back on Wednesday from the BWI. And yes, if it was me, I would change to the YC/BC. Don't get me wrong, love the BWI, but the rooms need major rehab and it's great to hear they are finally getting around to it. There is another thread with a review of my stay on the BWI if that helps. Have fun!

As a BWV DVC member, I would like to see a fast food place, like the Marketplace at the Beach Club. They closed down the kids club, would there be room there?

YES!!! That would be so wonderful. We own at Boardwalk Villas as well and we always miss the fact that there is no where to fill your own mug. I would love a marketplace added.

We stayed at BWV two months ago and while we absolutely loved it I was surprised by some of the worn out aspects of our one bedroom. I noticed that the woodwork and doors (that are painted white) were really filthy. The floors in the kitchen and bathroom were in bad shape. The shower was very much in need of replacing, no mold, just sort of beat up. The carpet was fine and clean (my son always wears white socks and they stayed clean so that was nice). It was clean (except for the grungy woodwork) and beautifully decorated but I guess we are just used to the very new, very pristine condition of SSR. I love the fact that WDW keeps rennovating all the properties and based upon my recent BWV experience its time.

I guess you are aware of the original concept of the resort. It was to be more like the N.J. shore, {of olden days} with rides {a ferris wheel included} along with a roller coaster, whip and several other typical seashore rides. Have you noticed all of the posters and photos of Atlantic City around the resort as well as the miss America contests? As I recall, Eisner decided to cut funding to the resort, and all they wound up with were the crummy boardwalk games. Not much cost involved in building those things........

Ferris Wheel seems obvious to me as do some other carnival/seashore type rides. You don't need anything as sophiscated as a coaster. They could trash the Dance Hall since its always empty anyway.

I'm not sure I'd really want the BoardWalk getting more crowded and busy. What they have now is a good compromise between activity and respect for the guests for whom that is their temporary home.

I'm no expert, but I think I heard the Boardwalk was rehabbed about 5 years ago.

I also thought I read (somewhere on these boards) that, on average, Disney rehabs all resort rooms about every 5-6 years. That would make sense considering how much use they get.
