Rumor: Red Car Trolly to Shut down in 2025 Due to Avengers Construction

It is sad but I, too, saw this coming. Plus, does it really fit in with the park anymore?
To me, it stopped being “California” Adventure when everything started moving toward Pixar. California Screamin’ became Incredicoaster, etc., etc. Little Mermaid took over that space that used to have the movie about California. Even Soarin is no longer California…which makes me so mad. They should show The World in Florida and California in California…not just for one month out of the year. It’s far superior to the stupid world version.

Now it’s just a jumbled up hodgepodge mess with no clear identity. Little bit of this…little bit of that. We definitely need a new name. Disneyland Jr.? Disneyland Lite? :rotfl2:

I like the idea of just being Pixar Park but then you’ve got Marvel in there too.
Any ideas?
I hope they don't go with Pixar Park. Anything too specific is restrictive, which is part of the problem with 'California Adventure.' Still, I strongly hope they keep a nod to California. I love Buena Vista Street and my dad, who grew up in that area of LA, loved it. He lived with me at the end of his life (he died 6 years ago at age 90) and enjoyed seeing my pictures of it.

I would love it if "California" remained a part of the park name but your point is well taken that it is rapidly moving away from that image. I do very much hope they keep Buena Vista street which goes nicely with the statue of Walt at the hub.

Do they still do the "Suitcase and a Dream" song? I guess they'll just do it without the trolley.

I loved that show, but I don't think they have done it since pre-covid.

I wish they could figure out how to keep the trolley. I mean, can't they just build a garage elsewhere? Disney is always acting like something can't be done, but it totally can.

It may have been 2018 around Christmas which was the last pre-Covid trip we had.
It's not that Disney can't build it. It's that they don't want to pay to build it. Just like bringing back the People Mover. It makes all the sense in the world but they don't want to pay for it. I agree with Offhand Disney. It's the same reason Rivers of America at WDW going away annoys me. You need ambiance in these parks, otherwise you're just turning into Six Flags or Cedar Point.

I agree to a point

But I think in this case it makes more sense why it sucks compared to the Rivers going away at WDW

Like here, its them just not wanting to spend money to make a new garage

At WDW, they are losing an area that while nice, will be replaced by two unique lands and guess what the Rivers are still here at Disneyland

I like Disneyland and MK being different from one another, as I kid I wanted to go but MK to me is just a wider but lessor Disneyland, now MK can become its own park which im all for.

Yeah. I can be understanding when things are underutilized, but they also sort of contribute to them being underutilized. Like the Trolley - if they would bring back the show, that is a good draw for it. They don't want to though for whatever reason. Also, we are talking about a small space to house the trolley, not restoring the PeopleMover, which I understand to be a major structural challenge. I mean, yeah, they SHOULD do it, and they absolutely CAN do it - Disney has the money.

Yeah, TSI is a bit more complicated and I understand why they targeted it. I do love the ambiance though and personally I might have tried to keep it but reinvigorate it somehow - inject something special and worthwhile, but I get it.

Just a note, DL Paris has BTTMR actually ON the island, but you board at the mainland and the ride goes through a tunnel under the water. I mean...couldn't something like that be done with Cars?

But, you know, I get it too. I am sure they run focus groups and ask, would you rather have an island with caves or a new Cars Land AND Villains Land. An old-timey trolley or TWO new Avengers rides? Yeah, I think I know how that turns out.

It was definitely pre COVID when they got rid of the Red Car News Boys... I was devastated when I heard they were cancelling it. It was one of those magical moments of spontaneity that's gone now.

And that post you shared is spot on. Just because something isn't wildly popular doesn't mean it's not valued. If everything was as popular as say, Rise of the Resistance, the park would be a very different place. Maybe that's what the Disney executives want, but as someone who has been going to DL literally their whole life, it's certainly not what I want.

The name still kind of fits if you look at it as a Disney Adventure in California.

In my head, there is a place I call “Nostalgia Disneyland” and it’s a place I visit often. I recall all the wonderful things that once were but are no longer. Each time I visit Disneyland now, there are fewer and fewer of the things that live in Nostalgia DL.
I try to find new things to love (ROTR, RSR) and hope that THEY don’t change.

I am fairly certain that a number of us who post regularly are of a certain age, just by following your posts. We like the Dapper Dans, the GH piano player (and the old shows as well), the Red Car Trolley, the numerous shows we’ve lost over the years (and most recently my beloved Dr. Strange, gonna take me awhile to get over that), and all the other things we’ve lost. Our park is passing to a new generation, for good or for bad depending on where you sit. I can only hope that the man for whom it is named is not forgotten, not disregarded. I really don’t care what they do in Florida as I will probably not revisit it, last year was good for me.

They can ADD ON to the park as much as they want but I only hope that “my Disneyland” remains intact until I am gone. Nothing makes my heart sing as when I walk under the berm and enter Town Square, look down Main Street, maybe see Mickey or Minnie waving…it’s still home to me.

Walt Kinda dammed people who loved certain attractions

He said DIsneyland will never be finished and even himself took out day one attractions to make room for newer attractions

Once again in this case Disney could keep this but wont spend the money. I hope the Trolley can live on the street as a reminder and hopefully Thanos throws the red Trolley at you or something as another tribute to the attraction

This.

People constantly bemoan that the park isn’t about California anymore. We used to bemoan that having a California themed park in California was a dumb idea to begin with (it still is!). The name is fine. It’s a Disney Park in California. The name isn’t changing and never will.

Look at WDW: hardly anything about Disney Hollywood Whatever is about Hollywood. Even EPCOT is not really themed like it used to be.

I feel the same way, Tinkaboo. I used to daydream that DCA could be a park where they put all the old attrarctions and shows they don't have at Disneyland anymore. They could even call it Nostalgia Disneyland! I think part of what makes Disneyland so magical is that you go time and time again and see your favorite shows, piano players, rides, etc. I don't want only NEW NEW NEW. I like attractions that feel like old friends. (Sappy but true for me.)

What does it's constitution have to do with it? :tigger:
The area where they hold the Trolly's at night is going to become part of the new avengers E ticket
Tigger was referring to the typographic error in your subject line for this thread: "Avengers Constitution." Can subject lines be edited after they're posted?

Anyway, these constitution--er, construction--plans do verify that Disney is going to start creating the new rides fairly soon.

Hey, speak for yourself! :rotfl2: I'm a native Californian, so even though I had been to all of the areas portrayed in the original DCA before that park ever opened, I liked having them emulated at Disneyland. And if California hadn't been the original theme, we wouldn't have that amazing version of Soarin' that everyone still loves decades later! 😍

Never waste an opportunity to cut some ambiance in favor of something you can sell Lightning Lanes for.

:(

I wonder whatever happened to "If you can dream it, you can do it".

Agreed. Knotts has trains and horses - Disney had the islands and trains and monorail etc. but at this rate Disney will just have cement streets to walk around. Once the ambiance is gone, we're done. The prices do not justify just "rides" no matter how good the rides might be - the Park IS THE AMBIANCE. The only thing that could end Disney's hold on those ticket prices is losing the ambiance. I know they depend on characters and movie connections - but those are side issues to the "magical feel" of the park. I guarantee if you remove enough greenery and transport for example (the island and water count like greenery), people will feel the different vibe.

Ok Ok guys

Why are we pretending like Disney is destroying atmosphere.

Big Hero Six Land Refresh gave that land new life and no rides added

Toontown also got a Land Refresh and it much better for kids to run around and have fun on none LL rides.

They added the Adventureland Tree house, makes them almost not money.

Bayou Country is looking to be an improvement from Critter Country.

HM and some of New Orleans are getting more theming as we speak.

Avatar Land is literally going to have a Water feature of some sort.

Disney has not announced anything in the slightest to make us think the Rivers of America are going anywhere, I'm upset about the Red Car as well but lets not pretend the future of the parks is worst. We are getting a new land for DCA and the Avatar Land in Florida is very loved by even none fans of the films and Avengers Campus needs an E ticket and another ride like we are getting to finally make the land feel complete. We are also getting a Coco boat ride, which I would think from how much love the Coco characters get on Parades and the yearly show will be a huge hit for DCA and hopefully somewhat be a people eater, which DCA needs another one of those.
