I've heard a rumor that Disney is going to come out with something for the Nintendo DS that will allow you to access park maps and will wirelessly update wait times for attractions when you are in the parks. That got me to thinking - how cool would it be if you could do that with your wireless PDA:idea: ? It could tell you all the entertainment times and current wait times for attractions.

I doubt that this will happen for a couple reasons.

1. The DS wifi connection isn't very good (at least for the one I have it isn't)
2. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to make this for cell phones since alot of people have cell phones compared to the amount of people that have DS's.
3. I don't think many people carry there DS's around, especially when going to a theme park.
4. I don't think that Disney has any partnership with Nintendo so I don't know how they would be able to use the DS system for there own things. Also, Six Flags which is a rival company to Disney.

I know that they ARE planning to test it but no guarantees if it will ever be implemented

To me i think that it would be better if they would do it for cell phones

There is some precedent for the use of the DS in the theme parks:

Beginning May 22 with the release of the video game, Disney park guests who bring their Nintendo DS and a copy of the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End DS video game with them during their visit can download new video game content at specific “X-marks-the-spot" hotspots hidden near the Pirates of the Caribbean attractions. This download unlocks new content such as unlimited health and “savvy" as well as fun extras, including additional costumes. This special content is only available to Disney park visitors and can be accessed with a Nintendo DS.

“The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Nintendo DS Download Program once again marks a milestone for Disney’s unmatched ability to synergize the best of its business," said Graham Hopper, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Interactive Studios. “This first ever technology partnership between Disney Interactive Studios and Disney Parks blends our shared focus on innovation and creativity, offering a truly memorable and magical experience for families."

“We are committed about giving our Disney park visitors an innovative, relevant and rewarding experience every time they visit," said Michael Mendenhall, executive vice president of global marketing for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “As we look for new ways to enhance our guests’ visits, the Nintendo DS is a perfect fit for our program since it is popular and easy to bring to the Disney park."

The Nintendo DS Download Program for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is available free of charge to any park guest carrying a Nintendo DS system that contains a copy of the video game. For Nintendo DS owners without a copy of the new video game, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End will be available for purchase in stores at both parks. The program will begin on May 22 and is scheduled to run through Labor Day.

There is a Cell phone sight that you can check ride times.

The only problem is that it's not real timed linked to the Parks.

It's user based so someone has to load the wait times. I have done it a few time to pass the time and checked it as well.

It's called PocketDisney.com and the last update was

HM on the 6th at 3:43 pm with a 10min wait time

I agree.
I think Disney would rather sell the Pal Mickey's with the updated wait times than to put the updates on a Nintendo DS for free.

Just my 2 cents.

My point was really that its another "tech blunder" by Disney. Throw in Go.com mickey cell phones this dumb idea and now they want to sell mickey cell phones in Japan...they keep trying though. :confused3

I think the pal mickey would be a great way to let us know line times...and let's face it...Disney will want to make some green over it!

Is the Nintendo DS pirates still work? We are thinking of buying of DS for our DS's this year and would love to buy the pirates game if they can use it at DL this spring.

?

In that respect it wouldn't be any different. It's not like they are going to give away the DS software for free. It would be sold in the parks just like Pal Mickey. And honestly I think there are a LOT of people that would be more willing to carry a DS around than clip on a Pal Mickey. I know I should as heck would. It would be a lot easier to use as well...

As for cell phone software... yeah, almost everyone carries a cell phone around. Most cell phones are just completely ill-suited to that kind of application though. For those with PDA/Smartphones, iPhones, and the like, it'd likely be great though.
