Rumor: Next Tuesday is the last day for the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich

I was there this past weekend, and I can tell you for a fact that I saw Goofy out in his skeleton costume garb in Town Square on Friday morning....also, many of the villians were out an about during the day doing M & G, including Jafar, the Evil Queen, etc...

A few people reported back about that very thing, in the Superthread. Initially, though, Disney (via a press release) made it sound as if the costumed characters were only going to be at MHP, and that in the daytime the characters in their 60th anniversary attire would be out. So I don't know if they changed their plan when they started getting backlash, or if this was the plan all along, but now it is supposed to be Halloween costumed-characters in the morning, and 60th anniversary characters in the afternoon. I knew that there would be at least a couple of regular Villains out in the daytime, but there are some extras beyond the ones I expected, which is great news! I am wondering if their visibility will change when MHP begins. For the last few years the Villains had been rather limited in the daytime, outside of the party.

All,

I was at the parks this past weekend and went into Hungry Bear Restaurant; alas, the menu boards are changed and the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich was, in fact, replaced with a Turkey Caesar Wrap and a Fried Chicken Sandwich. I asked the CM taking orders about the sandwich, and if I could still order it and she said no...BUT, it will be back in a couple of months, offered at Café Orleans.

According to her, the sandwich quality wasn't what Disney wanted it to be, and with all of the components and the fried green tomatoes, they determined it wasn't a good QS option. So, they will be bringing it back, but unfortunately it won't be QS anymore...Café Orleans is a TS restaurant.

Good news...it's coming back. Bad news...it will probably be more expensive, being at a TS restaurant. However; if it means it will be even yummier being more freshly made, then I'm all for it....I'm just glad it's not going away for good!

She said "a couple of months", so hopefully by the holidays???

Wow! I just read through this thread because it looked too long to be just about fried green tomatoes, and WOW! Aladdin is leaving and no counter service food is safe! I think the previous poster is right who said they are probably trying to align the food offerings with WDW and streamline everything. Sadly, this is happening in every industry right now with the way our current generation of managers have been trained. Unique services that create loyalty are being scratched every time a manager can score points by cutting more overhead out of the budget.

I emailed Disney. I got back a pretty generic email about how Walt said that Disneyland will always change and improve. They thanked me for my feedback, though they didn't even mention my feedback on the fried green tomato sandwich. Very generic.

I'm good with change...I question if taking away a great sandwich is "improving" though. o_O

Me, too!

Looks like our favorite sandwich is back. It is now listed on the cafe orleans menu online. It sounds a bit different, they've likely "reinvented" it. Another change is the price: $18.99. Yikes! Hope it's amazing!

Hmmm...maybe I can convince my husband to split this and a Monte Cristo with me. I must have my MC fix (thus the reservation at CO), but I loved the green tomato sandwich at HB. I'll be there in three weeks, so if no one else reports back before then, I'll post an update.
