Rumor Mill: 5th theme park; more to Epcot World Showcase; Star Wars Land in phases?

This was posted today. Not sure if this means there's more to the rumor, or if it's just rehashing old news.

There's no such thing as a statistical certainty...
But 0.0001% is where I would put the probability on this.

There would have to be a MASSIVE Spike in attendance and spending to justify a traditional Disney park. That's just not on the horizon.

Exclusive, high ticket boutique park?
Now
Maybe that makes sense.

Could be they're looking to drive 50th anniversary traffic. Could be they're looking to keep people on site all week instead of letting Universal siphon one or two days.

If it is a full 5th park, it has Marvel written all over it. Business sense would dictate something to draw guests not already here instead of redistributing existing guests, while also taking away the urge to leave campus for other destinations. The only flaw with Marvel is Universal's theme park rights. But I'm starting to think Disney is willing to spend a pretty penny to get the characters all under a single banner again.

The marvel contract is the easiest form of money for Disney... They would break it only in bankruptcy at this point.

As far as anniversaries go...in Florida nobody cares.
Disneyland has lifetime local visitors where that does. Orlando not so much.

They had a "big" 25th...then a bigger
Y2k thing...

But like the current "premium" upsells they got greedy from 2001-2008 and tried to make that the "draw" with flimsy concepts. In retrospect...I think it didnt net them 1 additional customer.

If they're coming -they're coming
If the economy is good. Disney more or less accepts that.

As far as a new gate "saving people from universal"...that's not gonna make a difference. They're still gonna have significant siphoning AND...siphon people off their parks to account for 80%+ or more of the new parks attendance.

It happened with ak and there's no indication that it wouldn't again. Your talking about a 3-5 BILLION dollar investment. Unless its boutique which could work.

The better way to stop the attendance bleeding is to really do significant add ons to the existing...notably MGM.
There you have tie ins and don't have to clear swamp and build entirely new infrastructure.

We'll see...or we won't...either way.

I completely agree. Right now nothing points to a 5th park being built. Before the stock crash in 2008, Disney was quite close to building a 5th park but of course that was cancelled.

I know you know this but some people just don't get this through their head. Disney's whole goal in parks is little investment with big returns. Instead of a brand new frozen ride like should happen they are just going to turn maelstrom into one. The FLE gave us 1 new d-ticket type ride, a clone of a ride in DCA, a doubled dumbo, a show with belle, and the now most popular WDW restaurant in BOG. I think the theming is great of all of it but Disney could've done much better.

I think we can all agree something is on the way for DHS just don't know what for sure yet, that park desperately needs it.

AK is getting a big transformation which is another park that desperately needs it.

WDWs 50th anniversary is 6 years away. If a 5th park was on the way they would need to have started based on Disney's construction schedule. 2 years for maelstrom redo, 4 years for FLE, Avatar will be another 4.

Disney is all about the money, I would expect more hard ticket events to become the norm, and other special paid for events to come along, especially at AK in the future based on the fact it's going to become a night park.

Disney likes money therefore I don't see them spending what it would take to get those rights back and then building marvel based rides on top of that. It would definitely be in the billions.

So sorry no marvel I don't see it happening.

Also disney wouldn't build a park based on a single franchise, Star Wars or marvel. No disney park around the globe or universal park for that matter has a single franchise throughout the parks. They have lands based on movies or franchises but a single park wouldn't sustain Even DHS attendance.

C'mon, this is purely hit-whoring, and it's working for the guy.

What does he really say:
"Oh, their building something at Flamingo Crossing!"
"Oh, there's hotels being built too!"
"This MUST mean a 5th gate!"

There's NO evidence of this at ALL. And if they were going to build a 5th gate for 2021, they wouldn't be already building it in secret. There would have to be ALL KINDS of permits and such to do this.

It's the worst kind of rumor-mongering.

In other news - Disney won't be doing Marvel in Florida in FOREVER! And anyways, Disney isn't going to build a themepark entirely around Marvel, or around Star Wars, or around Princesses. Of all the things that need to be inclusive, it's a theme park. You don't build a "Marvel only" park, which would disinterest at least 1/3 of the population.

Damn - now I'm even starting to SOUND like lockedoutlogic. What's WRONG with me??? :scared:

The article had "RUMOR" in the headline, so I put it in the RUMOR thread. That's all.

Maybe a water park, golf course or recreation area?

Flamingo Crossings was supposed to be resorts, time-share, with shopping and services. A theme park too? I doubt it.

Please, no, Lord.

That's my quiet drive home at night.

LOL. I was thinking about 429, and how it's one of the Orlando's best kept secrets. It's nice that way. :)

I take 417 every day, and even that's a nice, quiet drive compared to I-Fear.

I actually take Flamingo Crossing to Avalon (545) and scoot up N that way. No tolls!

My basic takeaway from the article is "Disney's 50th is coming up, so there must be a 5th park coming".

I guess WDW has hit a mid-life crisis, and will be purchasing a bright red Corvette next.

:car:

Here's what I think it is....

Disney's M&G Studios:

"Jump on our state of the art conveyor belt as it takes you past room after room of all of your favorite characters and every Disney Princess from the past 85 years!"

"Hop off at any Meet and Greet and enjoy every memorable moment!"

(note: for an extra $85.00, you can board our VIP conveyor belt which bypasses all of the minor characters such as Br'er Armadillo and Fred. Dessert Party included)

...and a $3.2 billion bail out of Disneyland Paris kind of kills some capital project/infrastructure funding for the next few years.
