RUMOR: Disney Planning for Walt Disney World to Remain Closed for the Rest of 2020?

The whole "secure circuit" thing was posted a while back and I've seen it floated around a few different places. Part of me is starting to think websites and "news outlets" that previously relied heavily on regular news updates related to the parks and general park things like new rides, construction updates, parties, etc etc are starting to dip majorly and are coming up with/manufacturing "news" to generate traffic.

Interesting read for sure. Phased opening of MK resorts would put 4 DVC as part of plan.

But, it still seems that would cause more problems for owners. It will be interesting.

Well this helps to make up my mind. I was thinking of going late Oct, early Nov but was being cautious about making my reservation. But this has just swayed me to wait until next spring.

Well, our rescheduled April trip to October 2020 is beginning to look less likely to happen...may start looking at Plan B...Disney Hilton Head.

Another data point. Hong Kong Disneyland has been closed since January 26 and no word when it will re-open despite COVID-19 under control in Hong Kong (special administrative zone not governed by China), evidenced by:
1) Total death of 4 for a total population of 7.5 million people packed in an area less than the size of Los Angeles city. Last COVID-19 death was March 13.
2) Number of new daily cases peaked at 82 three weeks ago.
3) Daily new cases last eight days - 4, 5, 3, 4, 1, 4, 2, 2

I'm sure the Hong Kong Government will also have input on when HK Disneyland can re-open so it's not a one-sided decision. Interestingly, on the resort side, two on-site hotels have stayed close while the flagship HK Disneyland Hotel has stayed open despite the park itself being closed. I believe this is the same with Shanghai Disneyland (park still closed but resort area opening first with safety checks on entering guests). I can see this happening for U.S. too, i.e. Disney opening hotels, DVC resorts, selected businesses in downtown area first, even before a definite date for park opening can be announced.

How can Disneyland Shanghai remain closed, when China reports less than 100 new cases per day, and WDW would open when the US reports over 20,000 new cases per day?

Nothing China reports can be seen as accurate.

No parades? No fireworks? No meet and greets? No shows? Limited ride capacity? I would rather wait, but I understand that waiting brings a whole new set of problems. I cancelled our October trip plans at the end of March. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

It seems that WDW being closed for the rest of 2020 is likely with the government's 3 phase plan for re-opening. Disney would not be able to re-open until phase 3 which is going to be many months out.

I've had Hilton Head booked for October since November last year. But I'm worried even that won't happen!

I feel like I'm in Birdbox movie, rowing, can't take my blindfold off.
Haha! I've compared this situation to that movie the whole time--scary to go outside!

Have we forgotten about the protests in Hong Kong already? That special administration has been accused of just being a puppet government for mainland.

That said, parks are closed. Doesn’t matter if it’s China, Tokyo, etc. and quite frankly I’m not sure anyone has an accurate count or agreement on what a COVId-19 death is.

Is it death based on the symptoms? Is it death regardless of reason as long as tests show they have it? Is it deaths related to mistakes made from an overwhelmed care system?

Based on what I understand, Wilderness Lodge/Boulder Ridge/Copper Creek and Fort Wilderness may not be part of the Secure Circuit plan.

I have to say, these limitations don’t make going to any WDW park appealing on any level. Add to the list no pools at the resorts and quite frankly it won’t be the resort or vacation experience I’m looking for. Makes me very o_O
