Rumor About Cars Land/Radiator Springs

Well Pete believed they saw mock ups for Florida carsland on a California backstage magic trip

I don't think that is truly the case. I'm not saying he didn't see it, but when they announced it they indicated that they had sources that had confirmed that it was going to be announced very shortly. I was on the BSM with Pete and the boys in June of 2013, and while I didn't see anything to indicate Carsland, I did see a mock-up/model of what appeared to be a revamped tomorrowland (At DLR), however I never declared that they were re-doing Tomorrowland because just because there's a model of something at WDI doesn't mean it's coming. Pete would know better than that as well, they must have had contacts as well.

Actually - I tracked down the DIS announcement - I was off by a year - it was December 2012.

It's really scary how slow things move at Disney - can't believe it's been 2.5 years and we're still waiting for an announcement on what they're doing there.

Ok well I knew they said in the podcast that they saw cars stuff on the ABD trip. It is very scary how slow this is. But I think that's because DHS isn't losing attendance like DLP or DCA.

Expect exciting things from them over the next several years!

Problem is, people were saying the same thing five-six years ago. And all we have gotten since then was a refurb of one area of the MK and a new attraction in Studios. You may call that "exciting," but most of us don't when the competitor down the street is adding major new attractions on almost an annual basis.

Iger want's to leave on a high note for sure though. He's now spending all the money he didn't spend over the last 10 years on parks and resorts (actually, WDW specifically). In the next 5-6 years we'll have at least 4 new attractions and a couple of new shows throughout the resort. That's good enough, tbh.

Disney already went through Universal's current phase back in the 90's. We can't really expect that to happen again, but hey, unlike most people around, I think WDW's future doesn't seem so dark after all.

I think it sucks that as Disney fans we've resorted to good enough

It's still pretty reasonable. As I said, adding rides annually is not going to happen again, probably ever. Disney went through that phase already. They don't need to do so. And Universal is going to reach that point eventually as well. Universal is trying to become a bigger force in the resort industry, and to do so, they need reasons for the people to stay at their resorts and visit all their parks instead of being just a token option.

Nothing excuses Disney's lack of investment at WDW over the last 10 years. I still think that at least 4 rides (Two at Pandora, Frozen and say one at Star Wars, which is unlikely anyways. Not even counting the rumored Pixar expansion) in 5-6 years is pretty reasonable. Not to mention all the other investments that are going on throughout the resort.

They're doing something. I'd also point out in that period we've gotten RoL and Avatar Construction underway too. We've also gotten Disney Springs facst tracked too. Construction hasn't been as spectacular as Uni, however that doesn't we're not getting exciting things both short and longterm.

There's two layers. If you were to tell me they'd been having a good enough mentality about ops, than yeah that's a problem. I just don't think they're required to invest in WDW if they don't see it makes sense. I personally think they're better off expanding, but they haven't pulled the trigger at DHS yet.

Like DHS, DCA was always a half-day park at best in Ca. for years. Mostly because they slashed the budget and scaled back the park at the last minute. Eventually, they had to invest another $1+ billion to get the park up to what it should have been from opening. All signs are that they are going to make the same commitment to DHS, complete with a new name. A Pixar expansion (they have rides in Paris that most North Americans will never get over to see), and the long-anticipated Star Wars expansion. We will see.

I would love to see a similar commitment to Epcot. There is so much in Future World that has diminished, with some pavilions dormant or under-used. World Showcase could use something new as well. Epcot is still a unofficial World's Fair trapped in 1982. As much as I love wandering the countries, many haven't changed at all since opening. I think I would get bored if I went back more often than every 3 or so years. Everyn time I'm there, I almost feel transported back to the '82 Knoxville...
