Please explain to me more about the rule of four. I can't seem to find any information on the DVC site about it. I did learn the hard way I can't make a reservation for DLP if I am calling and wanting said reservation in the last four months of my use year.

Could I have had a reservation if I had called to make a reservation at DLP before the last four months? Could I have made the reservation during a time in the last four months? Can I used banked points for the reservation?

Right when I figured out bank borrow and transfer I get hit with the new learning curve.

From the member website:
Reminder: Rule of Four
You cannot book and travel on The Disney Collection, (excluding Disneyland© Resort Hotels in California and Tokyo Disney Resort®), Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection vacations within the last 4 months of your Use Year. However, you can travel in the last 4 months of your Use Year as long as you've booked your stay more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year.

When reserving outside of DVC into any of the Disney collections including Disney hotels you cannot both call to reserve and reserve in last four months of use year, but you can reserve during those last four months by calling to reserve any time before the last four months of your use year.

Since the points used for these reservations must be used for cash reservations at your DVC resort, DVC has decided they want at least 4 months to rent those reservations.

As Michael already noted, as long as the reservation is made prior to the last 4 months of your Use Year, reservations may be made for any of the non-DVC options (based on availability). It doesn't matter if they are banked, borrowed or current points - the reservation just has to made while you are still within your banking period.

Once you are in the last 4 months, you can no longer use your DVC points for those options for that same time period but you could still make a reservation for any dates in the next Use Year.

Yes, no, and yes. Banked, borrowed, and current points work just the same in this case.

Thank you, I have it now. I can book the reservation and stay but it must be booked before the last 4 months of my use year. Then I can stay at DLP. That is serious planning ahead for me. But if I bank my points, I think I can plan on taking DS for his Birthday stay each year.
