Generally speaking, Rudy is a bit too much of a social liberal. If it was a Rudy vs. Hilary election in 2008 it would probably be a coin toss for me.

I like Rudy very much. He's a moderate Republican and he did a wonderful job as NYC Mayor. After 911, I found Rudy to be comforting during all of the news conferences he held. While people were running from Ground Zero, he was going towards ground zero. He showed true leadership in NYC.

The man has some serious baggage to him and I doubt he would be nominated by the GOP. I appreciated his service to NYC during 911 but doubt he could be elected President. Only time will tell and stranger things have happened.

Don't get New Yorkers started. Rudy was a double edged sword sometimes. Most times it was a love hate type of deal. Unless Rudy flip flops on some of his core social beliefs, the conservative wing (which is still ruling the Republican roost) will never go for a Rudy nomination.

After his whole cheating thing, I lost respect for him. Even more after he became so big and proud of himself after 9/11.

Because I don't live in NY, I really didn't follow the story. What exactly did he do with the girlfriend? Was he still married when she moved in with him?

It was pretty ugly and yes he was still married.

It was the War of The Roses, Manhattan politics style. They basically separated and divorced with the camera rolling. Yeah, Rudy "made his affections well known" while still very much married. To be fair though, Donna Hanover (ex-wife now) was no angel either. Very entertaining for folks that liked that sort of thing! Felt bad for the kids. As usual, they probably suffered the most.

The GOP could find itsef with 3 major cadidates in '08 who cheated on their wives (Guiliani, McCain and Gingrich). Could make for an entertaining primary season. Especially the contrast between McCain's ex (who adores him), and Guiliani's (who doesn't).

He did a great job of leading NY after 9/11 and helping NY/NJers get through those tough times, but I don't think he'd make a good president. Also, the social conservative wing of his party will never nominate him...I read recently he favors gay marriage ( oh the horrors).

I'd prefer him over that flip flopping "independent" ( ) mccain.

Excellent point about Rudy's core social beliefs, he's for gun control and he's pro choice. I like him because he has moderate views, but that will not fly with the hard core conservatives who control the current republican agenda.

I don't know if Rudy is the right choice for the Presidential nomination, only time will tell.

Might as well start researching your candidates for 2008. There are bound to be a ton of them!! I read an article in today's paper talking about the potential candidates for both parties, listing no fewer than 9 for each side. The article also mentioned that this will be the first election since 1928 that will be completely open, without the incumbent President or Vice President seeking the nomination.

Guiliani might be moderate enough to do well in the general election by drawing crossover votes but wouldn't get the nomination because of that moderation.

He did a great job cleaning up the city.
Then he did a fantastic after 9/11.

His personal life was no worse then what other politicians did and it
didn't seem to effect some of their careers.

Putting his personal life aside as nearly every liberal is more then willing to do where the Clintons are concerned, I think he would make a great candidate and would vote for him. Not all republicans are bible thumping crazies. For me its the taxes stupid.

Unless the moderates in the party really start to fight to be heard again. I don't think there is enough time for '08, but after the recent elections, the trend toward moderation might just be an inevitable occurance in the Republican party. Giving the conservative wing all the power isn't working anymore.
