We are going to be making our first visit next week, and just like today we'll be there during a few grad days. Fun! For now, our plan is to ride RSR at rope drop and then grab another FP for later in the day as soon as we're done riding. Using the DLR Lines app, I tried to get an idea of what to expect for return times and I see that even in a 5-10 minute window the FP return times go out dramatically.

Here's what the app reported:

Pull at Return time

8:50a 1:20-2:20p
9:35a 5:50-6:50p
9:50a 7:40-8:40p
10a 8:40-9:40p
10:10a gone

So, for an 8am open if we were to ride RSR first thing instead of going for the FP, what would the lines for the FP machines be to pull a ticket at say 8:45am? I guess having seen how quickly the times move out later into the night would I be looking at any sort of line at the FP machines at that time? Even if it's a 5-10 minute wait that could really push out the times by the time it's actually my turn to pull ours.

I know it's an odd question to ask what the wait at the machines may be, but knowing we're going to need to get in line to get a decent spot for WoC we can't really afford a really late RSR return time.

Additionally, I see that the FP for WOC are already gone as of 10am well. I assume there's a lengthy wait time for the FP machines for that too?

So, how much time should I plan to wait in line just to collect FP for both of those? :)

Thanks in advance for any info!

You shouldn't have to wait much at all to pull a RSR FP at 8:45am. I've pulled them around that time and even earlier, around 8:15am and almost walked right up to the machines. I would say your wait would be a minute or two, at most.

Not sure about WoC since I've never seen that show.

I agree that the wait to get the RSR FP at 8:45 am (assuming that's about 45 minutes after the park opens) shouldn't be that bad. FPs generally last about 1.5 to 2 hours after park opening, so I think you'll be okay as long as you are okay with getting a late-afternoon/early-evening return time. There will be lengthy wait for RSR FPs when the park first opens (at 8:00 am in your case, I think), but it will taper out fairly quickly.

In terms of WoC, that one is harder to say. I don't think you're going to see a long line at 8:45 am, even with the new show having debuted. When WoC first debuted, the lines for FPs were long, but that hasn't been the case in a while. I know you could still pull a WoC FP (without a line) around noon on Monday (Memorial Day) (second show, I think). So I think you'll be okay in the morning.

When RSR and WOC first opened the Fastpasses ran out within an hour or two. Now it takes a few hours to run out.

My recommendation.
If you want a chance to ride RSR twice, get there before the park opens and when the park opens get a FP for RSR. Then head to Paraidse Pier and do Toy Story Mania first then the other attractions in that area. Toy Story Mania should be your main focus at opening and not RSR. If you can fit Soarin and Grizzly in before 11am, do that. Then get your 2nd RSR FP.

If you want to ride RSR once and you don't mind a later time then head directly to Paradise Pier when the park opens and follow the recommendation from there.

RSR FP's on average will be gone by 12pm. So if it's 11am you should get a a great evening ride in.

For WOC You can wait a couple of hours then when you are about to ride Grizzly you can get a FP for WOC then.
