RPR mini fridge?

I did wonder about the mini fridges, as when I was last there, I could not imagine where it would be kept. The cupboard doors in my worktop unit (under where the TV sits) did not open, and I wondered if there was a mini fridge in there.

Also, I could find any ice in RPR. Is there areas on each floor where we can get our own ice? Is that even hygienic in this day and age? :confused3

The mini bar fridge is in the locked cupboard you mentioned.
there are ice machines on every floor, usually at the center of the tower where all the 3 corridors branch off

What's actually in the mini bar? Can you - or anyone else - give me some brand names? Smirnoff? Jack Daniel's? Pimm's? I would only want to pay for the option if I knew it was stocked with things I am aware of, being a Brit. ;)

Also, is there a timer on the base of the minibar, so that if you lift up a bottle for 30 secconds or more, they charge you for it, even if you don't open the bottle?

I thought the OP was questioning a fridge to put her own items in?:confused3

Yes, there is a mini bar/fridge, and some items for purchase outside the fridge. I declined the key and asked for the other items to be locked up. Sorry, I am not up for paying $7.00 for a bottle of water? That was the cost of the bottles that were out. I have no idea how much the items were in the fridge.

Thanks!

lots of stuff in it, but like pp said extremely expensive, plus there is a drawer with lots of treats in it, again $7 for a small box of nuts is not something i would pay for. Someone comes around every evening to check the mini bar if you took a key, so anything missing will be replenished and charged to the room account

but can you use this fridge without charge to store your own stuff in it? if you don't use anything they have there?

Those mini bars are not really a fridge
its more like a cooler or atleast the ones we ever had was

Those 4 boxes of nuts and the 2 bottles are water that they leave by the TV and coffee maker....

Are you saying that they were NOT complimentary? Are you kidding me? :lmao: I used them as breakfast before/during I walked to the park every morning. I had no idea they were additional charges.

I must have accrued maybe an extra $50 over my 4 night stay then, as I took everything they left. Thank god I didn't know about the mini bar! ;)

So how much is a packet of Lays or a bottle of Coke in the souvenir shop in lobby then? Maybe I should just buy some water from there on my way out of the hotel (if it's open that early)?

Sometimes at turndown service they will leave 2 small bottles of Figi or Zepherhills water and no you are not charged for those.:thumbsup2

The big bottles of Figi that are out by the tv all times have a $7 price label around the neck.

No, I would not store my own stuff in there. We bring a cooler and store it in the closet. I always refuse the key so there is no problems. I did have a charge on my room for 2 items at the end of the trip and went to the front desk and told them I don't even have a key. They apologized and took it off. Also there is a price sheet inside the top of the mini bar if you decide you have a bunch of money to throw around.:lmao:

No not complimentary, i always warn DD that she is not to touch them.
Like other posters said, get a styrofoam cooler for a few $$ and fill it with ice, works great.
As for buying water ,we go round to CVS or Wallgreens and buy a case for a few $$$ rater than buy individually from the resort shop, also stock up on soda and snacks as well.

No they are not free and as others mentioned the water is $7 a bottle and the nuts are about $5 a box cause DW wanted to eat some cajin flavored nuts and looked at the price and it said it was $5 and told her we could walk to walgreens and get some and as far as gift shop 2 bottles of coke cost me $5 and can't remeber how much chips cost but remeber they were high too

Thanks!

there are name brand liquors i the mini bar.
you would be better off $$ to walk over to the PBH and around the street to the walgreens a store that sells liquors.
much cheaper there..
not a bad walk at all.

you can open the mini bar and there is no 30 second timer for anything you pick up.
be sure to put the item back in the same place if you pick it up to look at it.
when the staff comes in for a daily check in the mini bar, they go by location of items.
if you have moved something in there and do not place it back in the original spot, you might end up with a charge for it.
like i said, they do a quick glance thru to see if anything is missing on their count.

you can take the water taxi to city walk, get off and then take the water taxi to pbh get off and then walk from there.
(about 4 minutes from there.)

everything in the hotels are costly.
go offsite and fill up on everything you need.

the mini bar will not keep items cold, just a tad chilled.
buy a styrofoam ice chest at the closet publix store, or walgreens.
fill it with ice from the ice station on your hotel floor.
place the ice chest in the tub each day when you leave.

the cleaning staff will not open it.
to clean the tub, they will remove it to the floor but will put it back in the tub.
this way if the ice melts, no leakage or overfill to the floor.

when i have done this, i always give the foam chest away to anyone checking in at the lobby. for the $4 it cost me, i don't need it anymore.

there are prop up signs and big signs on the dresser about the prices of those items.
the sign will also list the cost of other items you can buy.

you can ask at check in for the staff to remove the nuts, cookies, etc off the dresser in your room and have it noted on your room file.
that way you would not be tempted to eat any of them and incur no additional charges for them.

i do car service and a grocery stop on my way to the UO hotels.
usually stop at a Publix.
i buy my water and coke then.

i have bought items in the shops at the hotel but only because i was desperate at the time.
i think i paid about $2.50 or $3.00 a can last october for a coke.

The things like that in our room all had price tags on them.

Do all/any rooms have mini fridge or can you request one?

Yes you can rent a fridge for your room. They put ours between the dresser/mini-bar unit and our table. It was a bit crowded!

If you have a medical need for the fridge let them know as it's free with such a need. DH takes a drug that needs to be refrigerated, so it was free for us.

I simply requested a mini fridge and there was no extra charge. It's small, but lay some bottles sideways and you are good. It comes totally empty.
