I can't speak to portifino bay, but we just spent four days at the HRH and were so disappointed with the club offerings that we downgraded after just one night. We upgraded for $70 a night (were first quoted $100 a night and declined asked again the next day and said yes to $70 a night).
The club opens at 7:30 am. Breakfast offerings: donuts, pastries, fruit, yogurt, bagels, bread, apple juice, orange juice, coffee tea, milk
There are NO afternoon snacks or cookies. Milk and juice are removed at the end of breakfast hours (meaning no milk for kids, just soda or lemonade in the afternoon).
On the day we were in club the evening offerings were: tiny, low quality chicken wrapped in tortillas (frozen, reheated type of thing), small poor quality empanadas (bready, reheated frozen appetizer thing), left over fruit from breakfast and tortilla chips. The wine was good, and there were several bottled beers available. The food quality was more limited than but of the same quality we have experienced at the Homestead Suites free nightly "manager's reception". We have stayed at club level several times at other hotels (NY Hilton, Chicago Sheraton), all had MUCH better quality and selection of afternoon, evening and late night food. Even for a family of 5, this did not represent
$70 of value. I would not have paid more than $25-$30 for this benefit.
Dessert hour is from 8:30-9:30, the offering that day was rice crispy treats. No other choices and not available even one minute early (my son asked at 8:25 and was told to come back at 8:30).
The next morning I changed our room back to non-club. When I asked why I told the desk we needed earlier hours (our two year old is usually up and ready for a snack by 6:30) and that the club food was disappointing. I was told they had changed the food at the start of 2006 supposedly to make it more kid friendly. 2 of my 3 children refused to touch the Sam's Club style appetizers. My 14 year old was fine with them.
