Has anyone ever been to this resort? My co-worker is going next weekend and I thought maybe someone here could give us a review. Any info would be greatly appreciated. It looks good on the net but you know how that works:rolleyes: .

The Royal Solaris Cancun is a beautiful resort that has an all inclusive option. I have stayed there a couple of times and had a blast. There are 2 main parts to this resort. The Royal towers and the Caribe towers. The Royal towers are where most of the action happens. It is close to the pool where the activity staff keeps you busy (if you want to be kept busy) and where the swim-up bars are.

The Caribe towers are more laid back and are designed with a more Mexicana flare. There is a pool by them where you could relax with little or no distractions. There are a number of specialty restaurants on property with the Palapa being the one open for all 3 meals every day. The breakfasts are of the general nature with made to order omlettes, bacon, eggs, a lot of fresh fruit and some Mexican dishes.

The beaches in Mexico are public so they are not exclusive to the resort. You will find peddlers on the beach hawking everything from silver (careful) to blankets to hairbrading to marajuana. (note: I've heard that Mexican jails are not the nicest way to spend a part of your vacation in and police are said to be corrupt at times.) The water is absolutely stunning and you may even catch a glimpse of a sea turtle or 2.

If your friends are going with the all inclusive option, tell them to bring a stack of US $1 or $2 bills for tipping. I know it says that tipping is included but you have to remember that Mexico just raised their minimum wage to $4.40 per DAY and tips will be really appreciated. Have them ask to see the room before they check in. My preference is in the Royal Tower on the 7th floor with an ocean view. If the room is not to their liking and they ask for a change, they might get an answer of "we are all book solid". If that happens, a $10 or $20 bill, discreetly held so nobody but the clerk can see it, usually will get you the room you desire.

If your friends are drinkers, have them bring their own insulated mugs. You can get the large ones at Wal-Mart for $1.99 and if they bring a couple of extra, they will make some new friends because the resort uses very small 6-7 oz. plastic cups for drinks. If you or your friends have any other questions, please feel free to PM or e-mail me and I will be more than happy to answer them.

I went there for my honeymoon in 1991, so I'm sure it has changed a bit. But what I do remember is the view was spectacular (I don't remember which building it was) and the pool was great. We only went to the beach once or twice because the water wasn't safe for swimming the whole time we were there. The waves were really rough. DH went in and even he thought it was dangerous and got out quick. I agree to watch out for those guys selling stuff on the beach. I remember there was a little deli a block away from the hotel where we bought most of our stuff like bottled water and snacks. I wonder if it is still there? Tell your friend to have a great trip! I wish I was going!

Thanks so much for the info! She'll be thrilled that it got good reviews! I'll definitely tell her to bring a couple of mugs ;) . I wish I was going with her to, but someone has to man the office  .
