Does anyone have pics or reviews of royal plaza? We are staying out of Disney for the first time in forever. What are the drawbacks? Does anyone know where the bus stops in the parks are?

Stayed ther for 2 nights last year. Had a room with a balcony overlooing the pool. Good locatoins if you are going to the parks. Nice pool area. Clean rooms, never ate at their rest.

There is a good thread about this resort somewhere on the boards. Try a search for "Royal Plaza".

We stayed there two or three years ago when my DH had meetings there. We really liked it because we were close to Down Town Disney, the resort was clean, the pool was nice and the rooms were pretty big. The down side was that the buses were SLOW. It took my DH 2 hours to get to Epcot one afternoon. :sad2: Anyway, that was only problem that we had. :) We drove to the parks everyday.

DH and I first stayed at the Royal Plaza many years ago, before staying onsite at Disney. We have not been back since their major renovation. But, we are returning in Dec. 2010.
There is a very complete review of the hotel and its amenities attached to: http://www.MouseSavers.com

Hi,

We stayed at the Royal Plaza from 2/14-2/19. I agree that the rooms are large. We had bathroom issues that were not catastrophic but annoying. The fan was hanging from the ceiling and was ineffective in clearing steam from the bathroom. We were put into a "handicap accessible" room and the shower was level with the tile floor and the shower drain was not quick enough to keep water from spilling into the bathroom. It was a good thing that one of us did not have a physical disability or someone could have gotten injured on the slippery tile floor.

Transportation to the parks in the am was okay. We were able to get to rope drop but not as early as I would have liked. The parks all opened at 9am and the first bus came between 8and 8:15. We were at our park by 8:30-8:40 everyday. In the am, the bus usually runs people to either MK / DHS or Epcot/AK. On MK day our arrival time at the gate included the short ride on the monorail. It was time consuming to get back to the hotel during the day though. It took nearly 45 min on 2 different occaisions. Transportation at the park closing was fine too.
The restaurant has a decent breakfast buffet and very reasonably priced , tasty snacks (chicken fingers were 6.00)that you can either eat there or take out.
If your room is booked to include any free breakfasts, make sure you have some documentation when you check in. I had to wait 2 days for the front desk to clear this with central reservations and they are not available until after you get on that first early bus in the am.
Have a great trip!

I just can't make myself stay offsite at WDW. If I can't stay on property I save till I can. I applaud those who do.

Thanks for the tips. WE love staying in DW but the prices for holidays are now outrageous. We lost 3 members of our extended family recently and some of us now realize we don't have forever so we want to go to Orlando anyway (even on lean years) every year. We would prefer the old days of 10-14 days at Christmas with value rates and reasonable ticket prices!!! A vacation with family is the important thing though. We just may be visiting Harry Potter with the rest of America but we'll still miss dis.

someday you might change your mind ;) When you think about the time you spend in the room vs in the parks...
I use to think like you until I decided I would rather go to the parks more often than stay onsite. I have more fun in the parks than I do in the room...:thumbsup2
