Hi, I'm a travel agent in the UK and was checking some availability for the Christmas period for a client this afternoon.

I recommended he stay at one of the Downtown Disney hotels as he is on a budget but that these hotels will guarantee him entry to the parks at this busy time.

I got rates for both Royal Plaza and Best Western LBV (Royal Plaza is slightly less but not much in it)

Obviously I have access to official sites, guides etc on both properties but there's nothing like getting feedback from real people!!

It would be helpful if someone could help my client choose which is better as I have not personally stayed in the Downtown Disney area myself (yet!)

His booking is for 2 adults and 2 kids. Any recommendations either way.

Thanks

I have stayed at Royal plaza but have only eaten at best western lake buena vista, I did walk around the place when i was there and i liked the royal plaza alot better. nicer decor and just seemed to be a little more fancier, If i had to chose which one i would pick it would be the royal plaza. I hope this helps some.

I have not stayed at either hotel. However, I just received an email from Best Western-LBV. They have just finished a complete renovation of the property. They have an offer for $79.00 for 2 nights with the third night free. I do not know the exact dates this is being offered for, but I thought I would pass the information along.
Good Luck!

Never stayed at the Royal, so I can't compare. But we just stayed in late September at the BW LBV and found it quite nice. The rooms are old, but are clean. The entire downstairs area, including lobby, restaurant, lounge, and snack bar, are just finished and look real nice. They had a great deal on the breakfast bar when we were there. The pool is small but nice and there's plenty of chairs and such.

As for the rooms, a hint if you go this way. Ask for a Downtown Disney view, and ask for a corner room. The rooms on the corner have a balcony that's a third bigger than the others. The view is spectacular. You can watch Illuminations in the distance. You can see Epcot, the Contemporary and Space Mountain in the distance, and you have a great view of DTD and Pleasure Island.

And there's nothing like waking up at 3 AM and peering out into the distance to see Spaceship Earth bathed in purple.

Anyway, we got a great rate. I wouldn't pay resort prices, but we were quite happy with the room, the commons, and especially the location. We walked to DTD every day. Didn't try the busses, but they seemed regular.

Figment... would appreciate if you would post a little more info about the 3 night for 2 at the BW LBV. Is your email just for you or could we participate....

thanks a bunch...

I just received the email a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, I deleted it. I think they sent it to me because I signed up for emails or because I have existing reservations there.
I do not think it was directed just to me. The offe stated they wanted to show off their new renovations.
I did call to change from the rate I did have to the new rate. The reservation clerk did not ask me anything specific. I told her I had received the email and wanted to change my rate to the 2 nights at $79., one night free offer.
I do not know the exact dates this special offer is for, I believe it is for the months of January and February.
I think if you called reservations and asked for the special $79/2nights, 1 night free offer there would not be a problem.
The reservation number to BW LBV is (800)3483765.
Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Hotel Royal Plaza had a sudden drop in it's rates for Jan 1 & Jan 2 only. $50 plus the $7 resort fee. The days surrounding them were much more.

Neither of those 2 participate in the Early Entry/Extra Magic Hour that Disney Resort guests get. But the Hilton at DD does.

We LOVED the Hotel Royal Plaza last year . The service was incredible, the rooms neat and clean. I have only good things to say about our stay.

Ive never stayed at BW.
