We currently have a reservation at RPR for Nov 25-Nov 27 for 2 adults and 1 child. My son has invited his cousin who is 11 years old to join us. I called today and tried to add him to our reservation but was told that the hotel is sold out for these dates, and they could not modify. Our room is a standard 2 queen room, and they will share a bed. Will it be possible to add him at check in time when we show up? I'm very worried as express passes are a big deal to us and I need to keep this room and have my nephew added to our room. Anyone who has been in this situation I would love to hear your experience with this.

I booked through the Universal Orlando app online with my annual pass discount.

Did you book direct? You can usually add the extra person online. Should not change your price because it is not changing the room type.
I originally booked the reservation back in July through the Universal Orlando app with my annual pass discount. When I tried modifying the reservation it wouldn't and said no rooms were available. We just called the phone number on the reservation email and not the Universal website number like I called this morning, and they were able to add him to the reservation for us. I believe this number was the hotel directly.

This post concerned me because I am in a similar situation. I have reservations for Helios in early June when it is sold out. We are a family of four. I did not put the proper number people on the reservation bc it would glitch and not go through. I booked the morning reservations opened up so the website was busy and I was in a hurry to secure a room. The reservation went through no problem with the default 1 adult guest number.
Anyway, I just called the number on the reservation email. The team member told me he could not modify the number of guests himself so he could either put in for a supervisor to do it and I would get an email, or I could just add the guests at check-in. He referenced that there was no change in room charge, so I don't know if it would have been different if we had 3 adults that would have increased the price or he just mentioned it for my own information. I told him we would just add the extra guests at check-in as that seemed to be easier.

Maybe they misunderstood you and thought you wanted another room?
I have been able to add people at checkin in the past without issues (but last time was 2022). There should be a small fee per person, I think, but I wasn't charged.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you booked one of the suites that only allows 3 adults and 1 child, and you have four adults in the party.

I was also online during the first hour of reservation opening. I was trying for the celestial suite but luckily it didn't go through, otherwise it would be a problem at check-in since my youngest child would be 18 at that time.

I've done this a few times with zero issues at the existing hotels. As long as you don't exceed the number of folks per room, I think you'll be fine. I am in a similar situation for Helios next year (having fewer adults than who will be in the room) and am unconcerned.

I have done this before at Premier hotels. They cant do it online but its trivial for them to do it when you check in. Its fairly normal for the staff to deal with as a lot people just put the single guest and not the other room occupants when they first book a room. Also if you get chosen for virtual checkin it will ask you all over again for the room occupants. For all intents and purposes room occupants get re reviewed in any case during check in so dont sweat it.

First 2 adults are included and you can do 4 minors as well in the room. They dont ask to see any other id's or make any of the other guests be present when you check in.
