Also, in this documentary I saw....do you realize that the King that stepped down to marry the divorcee was sympathetic to Hitler and his cause? Had he remained King, WWII would have had a completely different outcome!!

And I think it was more the fact that she was a DIVORCEE that caused such an uproar that Edward VIII was forced to abdicate the throne.

The couple did visit Adolf Hitler in Germany in 1937, but later denied being Nazi sympathizers.

I'll clarify my previous post: He stepped down to marry a divorcee. Before that decision, it is documented that he was a Nazi sympathizer. IMHO, it was a good thing he no longer remained the King of England.

I guess that would mean something back in the 1930's and 1940's. The same way we are so sensitive to people of 'Arab decent' now.

Well, earlier than that, most likely, more like WWI. Sauerkraut was called Liberty Cabbage, a hamburger was a Liberty Sandwich (I guess it goes well with Freedom Fries). My father's side of the family is all German, and they changed their last name slightly during WWI to resemble an English name. I imagine it was much the same situation in the UK at the time. I'm sure a lot of it resurfaced during WWII.

That's interesting! I am not much familiar with history before WWII. I like hearing history facts....
