myself and DD (11) will be doing the 5k in February and will be travelling from my parents house about one hour away. I am trying to figure out the logistics of getting to the race, what time, where to park, words of wisdom. I know it is not one of the longer races and the number of people participating is less, but anyone have suggestions? I have read through the rundisney page and FAQs, but i still am not totally clear.

thanks

I registered us this weekend. it is just coincidental that we will be there for that weekend as it is February break for NH. We did the 5k on the Disney cruise in November, so DD knows how long it is and what to expect. We are very excited!

We are also doing the 5K. As an unfit family it has been a challenge and we are determined that we will make a decent attempt.

Have decided to try and keep our bodyclocks on UK time as we only arrive on Tuesday evening so that will make the early morning easier to manage!:thumbsup2

This is a new adventure for me. I have always wanted to be one of those "runners". Well now that i have lost about 90lbs and down to a fairly healthy weight i am really trying to find my niche. I did a 5k about 1 1/2 months ago in about 38 minutes. so i am just going to try to beat that time. i am very excited! happy travels from UK.

I'm thinking about adding the 5K to my Princess half. I'll decide after my appt on the 22nd about my Achilles. :)

I'm signed up for it (doing all 3 races that weekend!) as Ive finally talked a friend into walking the 5K

The 5k starts/ends about 300 feet apart all in the epcot wonder parking lot

Once you get to epcot theyll direct you on where to park- make sure to either check the row # or have a good idea of the row/area ie 2nd back from trees)

Best advice try to show up NO later than 1 hr 15 min before start time if not 1 hr 30 min as its far better on races to 'hurry up and wait' esp with the added security that has been added with bag checks and 'point of no returns' (i.e once you enter the runners only corral staging area' you cant go back- but they have bathrooms/water a plenty there) For WDW marathon weekend this week they have been trying to get everyone corralled no later than 30 min before so its a smooth start-

Time goes pretty fast and they have a DJ/announcers to get everyone ready-

Post race is very organized- youll get your medallion, water/powerade, then off to optional 'finisher' pictures then the snack box then back to bag check/family reunion area

Has anyone heard if they will have morning packet pickup. Running GSC and would like to add the 5k but getting in at midnight Thursday so the expo is clearly out for me

i think from what i have already read, you cannot pick up your packet that morning. Not sure if this is a new change or not for this year.

Get there early. Use the porta-potty... they are very clean and plentiful. Take pictures with the backdrops and stretch a little. The dj will have a dance party going on and there is a lot of energy.

Head to your corral with plenty of time. The time goes really fast in the corrals. My SIL and I ran it last year and neither of us were runners. We had fun. Don't expect to get a great time, it is really crowded and hard to run with the crowds. Pause for pictures. As you run under Test Track, look up. There were CMs standing on the track cheering us on. I wish I had taken pictures of that. Wear a silly tutu or a costume. It's just a fun event. DH and DS are running with us this year. Last year we just wanted to be able to finish it. This year we want to enjoy it more.
