Hey everyone! Just wondering if anyone knows when the Royal Family 5k sells out? I've got my mind set on doing this as one of my first 5k's... just wondering how long I have to convince my DH to let me do it :)

You have time, but the rate of fill is really random. Monitor the % Full Bar Chart and once it hits 75-80%, you need to have him convinced. It is in the area of 80-90% that the rate of fill jumps up in anticipation of filling.

Thanks so much for the great info! This will be my first runDisney event and pretty excited about it! My birthday is Feb 18th, so I'm hoping to convince him that it would be a great birthday present :)

Sorry but why do you need to get his permission? I would say "honey I need to do this for me"! It's an awesome, fun and healthy thing to do. Go for it! You will love it!!

Fwiw, training takes time from the family. It also takes money for running clothes and shoes, travel to Disney if they aren't local, and the high cost of the Disney race itself. My DH was happy to have me sign up for the races I have, but it did require discussions. Time and money from the family probably should require discussion.

Well, we're taking a 10 days trip to WDW the end of May in 2014... so just the resort and park tickets alone WITH the discounts that came out yesterday came to be around $850 for the two of us. That's not including reg. fee, flights, food or spending money. If we weren't already taking a $4000+ trip in May, it wouldn't be a problem... but alas, money doesn't grow on trees! Gotta investigate and convince him that the extra $ is there!

Sorry your original post didn't say anything about other trips or money so it "read" like you just had to convince him to go for a run! I know all too well how much entry fees and time away from family these races takes. My husband is so great with it, I just let him know and he rolls with it, I guess it's better having a wife addicted to half marathons then one signing up for donut eating contests! Good luck convincing your hubby on the next trip, hope he agrees!

Debating signing up for this. I just recently moved from Delaware to Florida and this is the only available RunDisney event that is not sold out. I have never participated in an event before and I am a little hesitant signing up for a family 5K on princess weekend. I've heard that guys do sign up and the ratio of women to men is crazy. I'm not a runner but I understand that fast paced walking is acceptable. So I'm leaning on signing up before it sells out as well. Just looking for other peoples opinions or experiences.

There were plenty of men (and kids) in the princess weekend 5k this year - it really is a family race, and the ratio of women to men is not as high as it is for the half marathon. I did it this year at a fast-paced walk and was right in the middle of things, so you would be fine there as well.

Thank you for the reply. I just signed up, now to schedule the day off of work. I didn't realize before that the event starts at 6:15am.

I can usually do a 14 minute mile when outdoor walking and 13.5 on a treadmill. This should be a fun time, just wish I knew about these sooner and I could have registered for the Enchanted 10K.
