My family is doing a 5-night cruise on Royal Caribbean over Thanksgiving this year. Are the ships decorated for Christmas that early? We are really looking forward to it!
We sailed Allure for Thanksgiving week last year. I was really disappointed at the lack if decorations after reading on Cruise Critic that everything magically starts appearing overnight on or around Thanksgiving. That didn't happen. We saw maybe 2 mini like potted plant trees that had a few ornaments on them. I think I may have seen a single maybe 12' stretch of lighted garland. They really were pushing the Black Friday sales all day Friday & Saturday. I think some Christmas music & decorations might have created more buzz & set the tone better for all the shopping they seemed desperate to get folks into. I found it quite irritating. I wanted that holiday kick-off so bad. It was one if the things I was most disappointed about. I guess it shows a little.
BUT, according to everything I read on Cruise Critic and from when I asked Thanksgiving RCCL cruisers what we experienced on the Allure was not the norm. I hope it was an isolated flub, one that won't be repeated.
In the MDR there is a Thanksgiving menu but we didn't go. We only ate at the MDR the 1st two nights. Thanksgiving dinner was Johnny Rockets for us. LOL! Actually, we had the big full traditional spread the week before we cruised. We aren't exactly confident with other interpretations of our Southern favorites.

Unfortunately, the Serenade won't have a Johnny Rockets, so hopefully the menu is good (though I don't pay for up charge restaurants as a principle anyway...)

I understand. We had such a laid back, wonderful day on St. Marten we just couldn't bring ourselves to dress for dinner. Dressing in dinner clothes is the utmost of cruise chores for us. I hate it passionately. It's the one thing about any cruise that I can say consistently blows. LOL! The one thing I did really love about the Allure was the many options for dinner that didn't require me to gussy-up. Sooooo....we had dinner at Johnny Rockets 3 out of 7 nights.... LOL!
We did a Thanksgiving Cruise in 2010. On Voyager, I think. We did have a special menu for Thanksgiving. We really enjoyed it! There was a thread on Cruise Critic earlier this year about thanksgiving menus, and the general consensus for people who sailed in the last couple years was that it was the normal menu with some extra thanksgiving options.
I don't remember whether or not the decorations were up yet.
