The 240,000-square-foot Burbank building is recognizable by its three-story 'Fantasia'-inspired sorcerer's apprentice hat
This story first appeared in the Nov. 28 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
Disney's fabled Roy E. Disney Animation Building is getting a redo. The animation facilities inside the 240,000-square-foot Burbank building, home to about 850 employees, will undergo an upgrade. A Disney rep confirmed the project, which a source says could start in January and take up to 16 months to complete.
Robert A.M. Stern Architects designed the structure, which was completed in 1994 — a vastly different era in animation. To Disney fanatics worried about the three-story sorcerer's apprentice hat inspired by the one Mickey Mouse donned in Fantasia: It's staying put.
