Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

Looking at the schedule you are 15 weeks from the Remix Challenge and then 15 weeks from that to the Hot Chocolate 15K. I would say that it doesn't get any more perfect than that for spacing your "A" races out. The key for the 5K/10K back-to-back challenge is that you are going to want to incorporate more back-to-back days in your training. Ideally you would run on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday would be an EA pace and Sunday at Long Run. So, I would envision you would want to make a plan based around the Remix and Hot Chocolate which would each be 15 week cycles. If you want to get faster we might be able to sneak in some speed workouts earlier in the schedule (possibly on Tuesday if we add a 4th day or as a replacement for Thursday if keeping with 3 days in the beginning of the cycle). Ideally, your ratio of hard/easy doesn't deviate too much from 20/80. Otherwise, you'll start to put yourself at risk for overtraining and injury.

All of this means I probably wouldn't focus too much on the upcoming 10K in terms of the current cycle but rather than Remix Challenge. The 10K will now be viewed as a "B" race or fun run. Let me know what you come up with for the cycle of 4/3/16 to 7/17/16. I wouldn't worry about the cycle after that just yet.

Yay for moving on to longer distances! You are so awesome!!
And I love your face in the race picture. You clearly did not know that there was a camera there.

And I have a corral assignment for the Flying Pig 10k! I will be in C and my hubby in D (corrals go through G.) We may decide to go together with or we'll split up. To be decided.

I like looking at the results from previous year to see how many people ran and how fast they are. (To have an idea what I'm getting myself into.)
2015 had 4169 finishers
The first person at 60 min was in 1142 place. So that means 3007 runners finished in over an hour. So that makes me feel like I'm gonna be just fine :)
Anyone else ever do this?

That is all I've got for the moment. :)

I've been MIA on here but it's because I am just so busy at the moment. Had a sick baby this weekend too. But my goal is to go running tonight and post eventually here this week to let you all know that I am still alive, still cooking good food and still wearing insane leggings. But I'm exhausted as well & what I'm thinking about for training. Hoping running somehow gives me energy tonight (that may work right???) At least it should help me go to sleep right?

So ... how did yesterday's run go??

I did it despite wanting to just go to sleep. So that's a victory. At about 7:30ish my husband gave me the usual "go put on your gym clothes" reminder. The gym was packed again (what is it with tuesday nights?) and I had to do something new and scary....run on a "front row" treadmill!!!! Oh the horror.

We have two lines of treadmills and I'm a back row runner...because A) no one is staring at my behind or my screen and B) the back row gives me a buffer between me and staring at all the weight lifting dudes. But I put on my big girl pants and set myself on a front row machine and it wasn't that horrific. The plus side...I didn't have to stare at any behinds. The downside...I had to keep myself from laughing at the guy doing some form of tai-chi-pilates-yoga all over the floor mat in front of us. It wasn't even that it was funny necessarily but I laugh when uncomfortable and some of his poses were...ummmm....uncomfortable.

Oh I never mentioned...it was my easy run...I ran 3 and then walked like .25 on very easy just to get me to the end of a couple songs that I really liked. I need to post my revised "plan" for everyone to take a red sharpie to soon, but that may be at lunch or tonight when I have more time.

So that is your very long, too long answer :)

Yay for going out despite wanting to go to sleep, and I'm glad you survived your front row treadmill experience!
It's been a while since I've been to a gym (which is the advantage of having a treadmill in the house), but from what I remember ... people do crazy things at the gym. Sometimes it's just so painfully awkward that you can't help but laugh.

Officially registered this morning for PNC Chicago Bears "finish on the field" 5k. June 25 2016 at Soldier Field. So that's my June race for the year. No time goal on this one yet. But likely will do a long run the day after to simulate the 5k/10k on the schedule in July :)

I feel bad for all of these short updates...but it's just been that kind of a week. I'm hoping I can catch up with myself soon.
The Good: It was high 70's this weekend and beautiful. I ran and my husband ran and we spent time outside without coats on and with shorts! SHORTS! (don't tell anyone I wore shorts)
My hubby even did 6.22 miles at a really good pace for him yesterday because he felt so good :) He surprised himself and me I think!
The Bad: I only ran 3 miles for my long run yesterday because I have a "dun dun dun" spring cold. It's yet to be determined if this is my allergies messing with me or if this is a real cold. But I had a fever yesterday and and there's phlegm and coughing I do not want to discuss in further detail. I probably could have physically ran more but I decided to end it while still feeling human instead of pushing myself past the point of being a zombie.
The Ugly: My blackhawks lost in the playoffs while we were in attendance yesterday. I was only half human as I was sitting there with my cold. BUT
The Good Again: I did get to eat Big Star Tacos, Drink a margarita, and have "date day" with my hubby at the game which cancels out all the Bad and the Ugly.

Everyone pray for me that I feel better today and going forward and that my family doesn't catch whatever I caught which was probably from my daughter. That's what the song Circle of Life is about right?

It makes it hard to map out and stick to a plan when these things are kind of setting me back. Trying not to use any of it as an excuse so I'm just doing as much as I can right now to keep up the endurance. If I can breathe like a human on Tuesday I will be back out there running in whatever capacity my nostrils and throat allow.

Good Luck to all the Boston Runners this morning. And happy Spring...finally!!!

Hooray for spring weather and SHORTS!!!

Sorry to hear about the cold. It's horrible to get sick just when the weather is getting nice. Hope you feel better soon.

Yum, tacos!!!

I SO feel you on the "spring cold but is it really a spring cold or is it allergies?" crud - I have had that since mid/end of last week but mine doesn't sound near as bad as what you have. If you're feeling terrible it's definitely best to err on the side of caution - a couple of missed runs won't kill you.

Congrats on the margs and tacos though...OMG YUM

Ok, so since my last runs were fairly uneventful. How about some food and fashion updates?

I've been sticking to my blue apron meals and getting better at them (save for a few burnt sweet potatoes) and I feel like our portion control for non-BA meals has gotten so much better. The amount of veggies and fresh ingredients has skyrocketed.

Meatball stew...I made the meatballs :). And that is kale in there. We eat a lot of kale, Swiss chard, spinach and other greens now.

I swear that sweet potatoe was good once you get past the burnt later! Greek yogurt instead of sour cream too :)
image.jpg

Steak and eggs with kimchi rice. Made my own kimchi. Steak was still mooing a bit.

I forget what all was in here but I chopped a million veggies and then chicken thighs for it.

Stay tuned for my fashion pic, gotta re size it and then post.

Wow, so many response so quickly. You all are making my cruddy Monday so much better :)

Yea for the sun! Boo to sickness (I know the feeling)!

Exactly. At least I did the opposite of what I usually would have done a year ago. Instead of throwing in the towel totally, I just still got out there just at a more limited capacity and ran to what felt ok. Gee, I wonder who taught me that?

It's the most annoying thing when you feel "almost sick" but not "fully sick" right? I'd say I felt the "I'm about to get a cold" for about a week, but it never reared its head and I thought I was home free. Until it was the nicest day of the year and then Mr. Cold pays a visit. I'm already feeling less "coughy" today so I'm finger crossing this will be short lived.

YUMMMY!!! All that food looks so good AND nutritious.

Thanks ZellyB, I used to cook big dinners but from a lot of pre-packaged and frozen stuff that I'm sure had a lot of salt and who knows what in it. And our sides were always a carb and almost never a veggie. And I still will go with one of those boxed meals now and then because life gets busy as a working mom. But I'm slowly learning that I can make the same kind of meal a little more from "scratch" and it doesn't take that much longer. And I can control better how much I make. My little family doesn't need a "family size" meal for instance. Just enough for two of us and teeny bit for the toddler.
My next step is being better about breakfast since I either skip it altogether or eat a giant bagel or something like that. So next grocery trip will have some better options in the cart. Anyone have good and easy healthy breakfast suggestions? ones that I could eat work since my time to eat in the morning at home is almost 0 minutes.

Oh and here is my fashion update. I got some more LuLaRoe (it's become a bit of an addiction...now that I'm down a size I'm having too much fun getting rid of my old "giant pants") but at least the skirt on the left was free and the other two items were clearance priced. Two skirts (the material feels almost tech but I won't be running in them) and a pair of coraly-red leggings. Doing what I can to not wear jeans til fall :)

Yay for awesome weather! I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling sick ... this stupid weather stuff tends to cause that sometimes. I hope you feel better soon!

The food all looks yumnmy! And it's great that you're doing better with portion control for the non-BA meals ... fresh ingredients and veggies are always awesome!
(And I like my sweet potatoes burnt ... but I'm weird)
In terms of breakfast ... it's been so long since I worked out of the house that I can't really offer too many suggestions, but one of my favorites is greek yogurt with homemade granola. I like the really sugary greek yogurts (I know, I shouldn't), but you can use plain greek yogurt, and by making your own granola you have a lot more control over how much sugar and junk is in there. There are a lot of really great healthy granola recipes out there, and you can modify the ingredients based on what you like best!

I love the new LuLaRoe stuff! So pretty!

oooh, homemade granola...that is an idea I had not thought about and it intrigues me. I can leave a ziploc of it at work. I will check that out!

I don't want to sound like an infomercial because I am not actually selling this stuff. The opposite...all my money is going away to them. But the LLR was started with sales in Mormon-heavy states. So all of their stuff is designed to be knee length or longer and all the clothes have modest necklines and sleeves (short sleeves though) and all the tops are designed to cover the derriere. It just so happens that works for me with work and I like the look of the larger top over leggings. I only mention it because I know you are always on the hunt for long skirts. The only downside is they are not always the cheapest option, but they are not super expensive either. (25 for leggings, 35 for shirts, 40+ for dresses.) I wouldn't work out in the leggings though...they aren't moisture wicking or anything.

Thanks for the info! I'm in a no-spending period right now (sadly), but if/when that changes, I will definitely look into their stuff. You really wouldn't think it's so hard to find knee-length skirts, but ... yeah. So I'm always happy for more modest clothing options.
