Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

YAY roxymama's mama! :yay:

So as I'm sure you know, all of the park miles/characters/castle/Death Wheel photo-ops are in the beginning of the race. Very park-heavy for the first few miles. I think that will help to keep you from going out too fast...I'd guess everyone negative-splits Disneyland races just because how the courses are set up. :confused3

EEEEEEK :tinker::tinker::tinker:

PS I think you forgot to add a certain meet-up on Saturday at 2PM to your calendar...:rolleyes1

Not to worry...I wouldn't miss that! I'll be the one that looks like me :)

Flat me. But add pink armband and headphones. Stitch/silvermist/sugarplum/frost fairy.

Shoe advise needed: I'm thinking either wings or Poms but not both and leaning wings. The wings feel like nothing is there but I'm very "aware of the pons". So do just wings look ok? (Still gotta tie them on)

and I'm still on the fence with wings. Pro) they look pretty with my shirt pattern coming through from back.
Con) they are a tad large so I'd bend em back/in a lil bit and I'm not quite sure best attachment method since I'm not wearing a tank. In this pic I've got the arm straps on (not doing that for a half distance). But I really like the "look"

I feel like you should write a book - What Not To Eat Before A Run: An Instruction Manual On Things That Taste Good But Maybe Aren't So Good For Running Right After
Chapter 1 - Tater tots (with googly eyes)
Chapter 2 - Cheese curds
I'd definitely read it.

Tink Week!! Your plan sounds great, and I think you will definitely have an awesome race (and hopefully get that 2:low number!)

Also ... yay for roxymamamama being able to make the trip!!

Outfit looks awesome. In terms of wings vs. poms for the shoes ... I think the poms match the outfit a little better, but the wings work too, so definitely go with whatever's the most comfortable.
Actual wings is a tougher question. I think they look awesome with the outfit, but they are a little wide. Hmm ... I'd say that if you're willing to part with them, start the race with them on and ditch them if they become annoying. If you're not willing to lose them, then I'd say maybe not. But do whatever works for you!

E) I'm gonna walk every water stop and drink the full cup even if it adds time. Because hydration has led to better long runs results for me. I'm going to fuel with gel at the water stop B (https://secure.parksandresorts.wdpromedia.com/media/rundisney/pdf/tinkerbell/2017/TinkHalf17_Half Marathon Course Map.pdf)
which is after mile 4. And then gel at stop E which is just after 8 miles. And then do I need gel any farther after that?

I'd take your last one at mile 11-12. While it takes 20 minutes or so for a gel to fully hit your system, I think you're better off having some energy in you for the finish. It's a less risky alternative than running low since it could be 45-50 minutes from your last one to the end of the race if you don't take one.

I love the blue! You'll be the prettiest stitch/silvermist/sugarplum/frosted fairy out there!

As far as the wings and the poms, I would definitely go for comfort. Maybe something to think about with the wings is are you willing to lose/toss them along the course? If so, you could wear them for your first few miles, so they're included in your castle pic and then if they get uncomfortable, you can toss 'em. I love how the poms look, but if they already bother you, maybe forgo them?

Ahh!! I'm just so excited for you!

I also agree that the poms look good, but if they bug then don't do it. The wings are really cute as well and if they feel better than definitely go with those!!

I think a full costume (poms included) run up and down the street tonight is in order....I'll feel totally insane but if my kiddo and hubby are cheering me on then I can just chalk it up to being a weird mom entertaining her minions :)
If something bugs me badly for that tiny distance...it's gonna bug me for 13. So just gonna suck it up and be a neighborhood fairy. Maybe I'll do it when it's dark out! Oh the things we do for "fashion."

THREE MORE SLEEPS TIL DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SQUEEEEEEE!!!

I am officially in what I like to call "pre-vacation incompetence mode" at work. I've got today and a half day tomorrow and totally don't want to be here.

YYYYYYYYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPPPPPP! Seconded.

You may look insane, but it's smart to do a test run. I didn't do that for the one race that I wore one of those ear headbands, and after the race I had a splitting headache all day...and that was for a 5K, not a half!

Is there a way to maybe tighten up the arm straps so that the wings aren't loose on you?

I'm thinking arm straps + pins? Since you have sleeves, and they're not resting on bare skin, the straps may not bug you. You could also pin the straps on so they don't move around.

If anything my little 5k I ran this weekend taught me...it's that walking to race by myself and running it however I felt like it...and yet still running strong...and not being scared or worried...and being proud no matter what...that's really quite a lovely thing and I can bring that attitude with me even if it's you know...for 10 extra miles
I love everything about this!!! And "flat you" looks awesome!!

Love it! Another vote for whatever is most comfortable!

Have been following along for a little while, but I don't think I've posted yet. Sorry for lurker status!

Congrats to roxykiddo on her race! And glad roxymamamama is able to join for the trip!!

Looking so forward to hearing about your race! It's going to be fabulous!!! :)

I've been super busy lately, and haven't had a chance to keep uo with my favorite dis-ers, but I just had to come on to say you have rocked your training like the rock star you are! :cheer2: I'm so excited for you to run Tink, and be in Disneyland, and have a blast!! :dancer:

I'm pretty sure any food with googley eyes should be ruled out for training food :). I saw the Rangers will be in the winter classic next year. And I was like "hey I know a rangers fan!"

I'm going to pack three gels now, better safe than sorry and I don't have to ingest the whole thing at the last water stop. But thank you for the advise!

I just realized that I'm not wearing my orange shoes until this weekend so I can go ahead and tie everything on! It's real!

You may look insane, but it's smart to do a test run. I didn't do that for the one race that I wore one of those ear headbands, and after the race I had a splitting headache all day...and that was for a 5K, not a half!

So I didn't do the try on run last night (it was late and I had my real training run to do) so a wing and shoe run up the road tonight since I'm packing!!!!!! And then I'll throw them in my suitcase!!!!

I'm thinking arm straps + pins? Since you have sleeves, and they're not resting on bare skin, the straps may not bug you. You could also pin the straps on so they don't move around.

I'm thinking this too!

I love everything about this!!! And "flat you" looks awesome!!

Thank you thank you! Hopefully "curvy me" will look awesome too! (Is that the appropriate opposite of "flat me?"

Love it! Another vote for whatever is most comfortable!

Hi!!! Lurk away....I'm a professional lurker. I'm hoping it's fabulous too!

I've been super busy lately, and haven't had a chance to keep uo with my favorite dis-ers, but I just had to come on to say you have rocked your training like the rock star you are! :cheer2: I'm so excited for you to run Tink, and be in Disneyland, and have a blast!! :dancer:

Hey lady! This week will take extra motivation as last night I was like "more training?....I just want to Disney" but hubby said "you've done everything so far, only couple little runs left" so I dragged myself out there and ran in the dark with my headlamp. I did get the crud scared out of me by a coyote!!!! Coming out of someone's backyard...I heard like sticks cracking/bushes rustling and that scared me and then I saw him and my lamp freaked it out and it bolted off like a scared rabbit. But dang if that last .25 miles home didn't gave my heart racing. My hubby has good "coyote joke" fodder now for the next few months.
Makes me a bit weirded out to be running so late. Who knew we had urban coyotes???

PACKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :tinker::tinker::tinker:

I literally went back into the Tinkerbell thread until I found where you posted your packing list and then I printed it out and made crazy person notes on top of it. Started a folder full of all my waivers/flights/confirmations of ordered stuff, etc. I think at lunch to amuse myself I will type it out nice and neat and post it here so that it's easier to decifer.
Goal tonight with packing:
A) Find all the outfit pieces that I have written out for my trip. Put anything dirty in the laundry. Once dry, pack the clothes!
B) Round up all my toiletries and notate any that I need travel size for and then "late-night Wed party at target" Woot Woot to get any travel size thingies and SUNSCREEN! that I need.
C) Run up and down my street wearing wings and pom pom shoes for humorous effect and testing
D) Pack the things!!! Except for any toiletries that I need up until Friday morning.
And it's the debut of Little Purple Plaid suitcase :)

The goal is to just get it done tonight so on Thursday I am not rushing around like a mad woman and can instead do my final pre-disney training run and get some sleep. Also so if it doesn't all fit I have a whole day to think on that :)
