ROTR still a reasonable rope drop option?

My last trip was in 2022, and we just did ILL for rotr. This year, we are thinking we might try to rope drop it on a Saturday. It is memorial day weekend so I am expecting large crowds and longer waits than our last trip so fully prepared to pay for another ILL, but I'd love to save the $$ for snacks instead!

Other thoughts are thunder mtn and toon town, or space mountain. We will be doing fantasyland on Memorial Day so not worried about it on Saturday.

For DCA, I think we will start with pixar pier but not sure if incredicoaster or TSMM is better first ride. Any suggestions welcome! I'm putting together a pre-trip report and should have it posted soon for feedback too :)

ROTR has never been a good choice for rope drop. Not only because of the reliability issues that @AstroBlasters mentioned but because it is a long walk and a longer attraction with the pre-shows, etc. Plus if you are not at the front of the pack at rope drop you will likely still have a 30-45 minute wait.

We did Space, Matterhorn, Indy, Thunder in 2 hours. We were not near the front of the pack and waited 45 minutes for Space Mountain.

That's good to know! Previously, I've always done space or fantasyland starting with Alice if we rope dropped so I'm a bit clueless what it looks like anywhere else. Since ROTR seems like a bad first choice, and several in my party aren't interested in Indy, I think we'd start with Space Mtn or Thunder Mtn. Does MMRR in toon town still get very long lines? That's one none of us have been on so its a high priority for the group. Everyone else is also very interested in Tiana's, but honestly I really dislike the steep drop so I'm not as excited :D

I've had good luck with short waits on Runaway Railway around rope drop time/walk on since it's in the far back of park.

I think generally it will hover around 40 minutes throughout the day of course sometimes more or less, but not extreme as other E tickets. If MMRR or Roger Rabbit goes down that will greatly affect the other since next to each other. Keep an eye on wait times in app.

I would do Space and/or Thunder first and then head over to MMRR it will take awhile to get a line since it is at the back of the park.

Last summer, with 4 year old daughter, we rope dropped Fantasyland, hitting Alice first and knocking out a good portion knocked out there and then hit Toontown around 9:00. MMRR was never that long at that time, though we found the line to meet Mickey and Minnie to be more of a challenge.

This year, our daughter is more wanting thrill rides so we might start at Space this time (still coming up with a strategy myself).

Thunder is okay to rope drop but is known not to add more trains to the circuit til later in the morning. We always tried to hit it around 10am ish and always found the line manageable. There seems to be a dip in wait time in that window when the extra train or two comes online.

I have found on Saturdays that I can usually get on ROTR in the 6-9 PM range in under an hour. Sometimes it is closer to 30 minutes, other days it is closer to 45-50 minutes. The line tends to move pretty well the entire time. Just keep watching the wait time and go for it if it is around 55 minutes. The line should hopefully not be outside very much (I have walked well into the cave a number of times).
