Rose & Crown dessert for Illuminations?

It seems to me that it is more rude to take up a table for 3 hours for "dinner" than to take up a table for less than an hour for dessert and coffee. Doing the math here, I think Disney is losing more money on the half-a-day dining sqatters than the quick in and out dessert eaters.

Depends on how you define "dinner". When I'm there with my husband we eat and leave, when I'm there with my friends we tend to drink for quite awhile before and after enjoying an amazing meal, then we move on to dessert. That's not Disney losing alot of money at all, that's a table spending alot....and if I'm on that table spending hundreds with my party, you bet I'll be there for 3 hours and enjoy the view of Illuminations as well. JMHO

"we don't accept reservations for dessert only "

Hmmm, when I made my reservations they didn't ask me if it was for dinner or dessert and coffee. And when they seat me they will not know either. So that doesn't make sense to me. How can you know what I am planning on ordering? Or not ordering? A paying customer has a right to order what they choose.

I have not done this at Disney but when I have done it other places I tip VERY generously. (i.e., it can be the same amount or more then the check) If the service is good then i don't want to "penalize" the server because I didn't order much.

Basically if your R&C reservation is after 7:30 it is very unlikely that you would get an outside table. If you get there at around 7:00 to 7:30 you can stretch your drinks, appetizer and entree so they you are getting your dessert around the time IllumiNations starts.

We always do drinks, apps, dinner, and dessert at Rose and crown with a 7:30 ADR. That being said we do order all the food listed above. I could not imagine ordering just dessert and holding a table for 2 hours. Personally I think that is very rude. Do people do it yes - but I never would. As it is we always leave a extra tip.

But the OP is not talking about quick in and out dining. They are talking about getting a ADR and sitting for a few hours to enjoy illuminations.

On 12/31/2003 there were four of us with a 9:50pm reservation and we got a prime outdoor seat. IllumiNations was scheduled for 11:40 (with the five-minute holiday add-on) and then special fireworks at Midnight.

After we were seated we ordered our drinks. When the drinks came we ordered our appetizers. When the appetizers came is when we ordered out main courses. And after we were done we ordered dessert. The desserts came just as IllumiNations was starting. and then there was getting of the check and all that other stuff. We finally left the restaurant about 12:15.

And we gave a very substantial tip (about 40%) to the waitress because of her service.

So what is most common then for ADRs? Do most people come before 7:30 for a 9:00 illuminations? We will have a party of 9 next summer and wanted to try Rose and Crown during illuminations. What would be the best time to make an ADR for?
