Hi All,
I was hoping you could give me a little information on Rope Drop...

We're going in August this year (6-13). I know that MK has EMH at night on the 7th. Which, from what I understand, makes the morning of the 8th the best time to go to MK. If the park opens at 9am that day (which it does from what I've read), then Rope Drop would be at 9am, right? What time would you all recommend getting there? 8:00? 7:00?

We're traveling with DH's brother and his family which includes two boys (ages 2 & 4), so I'm sure they won't be getting up that early, but we are such Disney fanatics and can't wait to get back, that I think it would be ideal for us. We could probably hit half the park before they are even up and have eaten breakfast! :thumbsup2

This is probably the only major park we will do during our vacation too. So, I want to get the most out of our day.

Thanks everyone!!!

Angela

Thanks! I figured it was a short show. I've just read a lot of people say to get there early. I thought maybe that was due to crowds lining up ahead of time to get in first. Can you see the show no matter where you are? Sorry, we've only been to WDW once as a family and we didn't go at park opening on any of those days during that trip. This is a new experience for us. :yay:

If you get there at 8:45 I doubt you will be in the mass of people waiting to get in and probably miss most of the show. I like to get there about 45 minutes prior just so I can have an upfront spot for the show. Yes it is a short show but it is soooo cute. A friend of mine was one of the first ones coming into the park so they got to be the family that was on the train to welcome everyone.

to arrive about 30 minutes before rope drop. We have to wait but that ensures we are there for it. As long as you are not at the entrances under the railroad, there is plenty of room. We usually take croissants or beignets to eat while we wait.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I want to see the show, but not be there too crazy early.

You guys are the best! :thumbsup2

My general rule of thumb is to arrive at the parks 30 minutes before opening so that we can be (relatively) closer to the front of the line. With the MK, I arrive 45 minutes early and sneak closer to the gates. However, then I do not have a great view of the show. So when it comes to the MK, you have to decide which is more important to you: getting in toward the front of the line or getting a good view of the show. If you just want a good view, lan to arrive 15-20 minutes prior to park opening.

We like to be there at LEAST 30 minutes before rope drop. However, at MK, it's more important for us to be as close to the front of the line as possible, and we don't watch the opening show.

This past summer, we got to MK around 7:30am for an 8am EMH and we were right in front at our entrance gate! (We were going to do double rope drop that day - EMH at MK, ride Space Mt., then head over to Epcot for their rope drop.)

Here I am super excited about having no one in front of me!

And this is what Main Street looked like after they let us in! (Just photopass CM's lining up down the middle of the street.)

Our general rule of thumb is to arrive 30 minutes before opening. I absolutely love when we are the first through the turn styles and like PP have pics of my kids as the first one thought! That always adds to the fun of the morning! :cool1:

Wow! That is an amazing picture! That must have been so weird to see the World so empty. Thanks for sharing!

Great pictures...I hope we get there that early. Our trip is coming up at the end of this month. Is rope drop always at the official opening time? I heard sometimes they do it earlier. Also does anyone know what time the monorail starts operating from the TTC? It sounds like to do it right for a "9:00 am" rope drop at MK, you should be at the gate by 8:30, which means get to the TTC about 8:00. Is that about right? Thanks!:)

I would say get there at least 45 minutes before park opening, if you want to be ready for rope drop.

Have a great time!!

I arrived thirty minutes early and was in the very front. You can see the show at MK from the gates as they presented it up on the train station platform. It isn't very long, but the welcome song is cute and you get to walk down Main Street USA side by side with the characters. I walked next to Mary Poppins and Bert all the way to the castle where I veered off for tomorrowland and FP collection.

What is it like seeing the rope drop from the other side, ya know before the park opens.

We have some ADRS before the park opens and I was just wondering in case there was some super-sonic way we were with with b-fast already.

Is there an area they let you stand and watch from the inside ?

Your second photo is EXACTLY why I love rope drop at MK. That view of main street and the castle without all the people is the most magically moment. That's usually my best Disney moment - gotta love the huge smile it brings to my face (and all the positive excitement!)
