Rope Drop is Tip #1!! A June 2016 TR...updated 10/31 pg 19 post 373 THE END!

Day Two 6/5/2016 ~ Magic Kingdom (part 1)

So I had wanted to get up for rope drop but with us staying up so late the night before AND Disney moving rope drop to 8am, there was no way this was happening. So I got up around 7am (I think my alarm went off at 6:30) and got myself all ready. Mom got up too and got the coffee going. I'm sure it didn't take AJ long to get up either because 1) he was sleeping on the couch bed, out in the sitting area with me and we turned on the lights and made noise and such and 2) because he is somewhat of an early riser, especially if he's hanging out with my mom (who, btw, gets up at like 6 or 6:30 for fun!).

I got this photo of the view from our room:

Very nice! SSR is a beautiful, peaceful resort. My only complaint is not enough Disney theming. Oh and their gift shop leaves quite a bit to be desired. But it is very much a wonderful resort to stay at.

Will is my sleeper and can easily sleep til 8:30 or 9 when his loud brother isn't around. He made it a habit this trip to wake up, usually not too much past when we did, call for me to get him out of the pnp, and then get in bed with my dad and snuggle and go back to sleep. Ugh. All I am going to say is shame on me...I should've known.

Ok, so we had a 10:25 ADR at Crystal Palace and we made it just in time, which means we probably left the resort around 9:30 I'm thinking because with driving and getting all the junk out of the car, walking up to the TTC, taking the monorial, bag check, etc, it takes about an hour! We did have a minute or two to take some photos first:

Okay, so as you can probably tell, there must've been a smudge or sweat or something on the "lens" of my iPhone. I apologize because I didn't notice it until after our breakfast. Oops.

We checked in and got called very quickly. We got sat and many of the characters had just passed our table. Oh well, I thought we might be in for a long one, BUT it was the end of the breakfast crowd so the restaurant was emptying out. In all actuality we only had time to run up and grab some plates of food because this guy came by about 10 minutes after we sat down:

IMG_4710.JPG
AJ was really loving on the characters this trip. Will took some time to warm up, so he didn't want to get in the group shot (or any shot) with Pooh! However Mom and I did:
IMG_4714.JPG
So here's one of Will, still seated in his high chair:
IMG_4716.JPG
The food here is standard breakfast fare though I know a lot of people mention the puffed toast, is it? I think it is maybe sort of french toast like, maybe? I am not a fan of cinnamon so I have never, not once, had french toast so I could be completely wrong about this puffed toast thing. Here's some food photos:
IMG_4717.JPG
Yes, I had already started eating! Another oops! I had breakfast potatoes, chocolate croissant (I think...I didn't eat too much of it), biscuit and gravy, and probably bacon. The strawberries were for Will. I think maybe he ate those and both ate and played with a Mickey waffle but that's it...and he is usually my big eater!
IMG_4718.JPG
I can't remember if this is his plate or AJ's. Probably Will's because AJ doesn't eat strawberries (or any fruit!!! this cannot be my kid!!). Boiled egg, puffed toast (??), eggs, pancakes, and I think he had already grabbed the Mickey waffle.

Continued in next post...

More food photos:

Mom's plate: breakfast casserole, bacon, eggs, and grits (I think).
IMG_4720.JPG
AJ's plate: NOTHING! Ok, well not nothing, but not much! Boiled egg, (part of a) Mickey waffle, cut up puffed toast (I think), and some cereal (easily with or without milk...he goes either way). Oh, and a bowl full of syrup (thanks, Mom)! And he probably ate about 2 bites of all of it! My picky, picky eater.

I did not get photos of my dad's plate(s) nor any of our subsequent plates. But some more friends stopped by:

IMG_4728.JPG
Look! Will is out of the high chair!! But not for long...
IMG_4729.JPG
IMG_4730.JPG
And that was that! Eyeore stopped by around 11:15 and I think we finished up and got out of there by 11:30, so in about an hour!

BTW, I do love this breakfast buffet. I flirted with doing dinner here on the next trip, but I'm fairly certain I'm just going to book breakfast again.

Your view from SSR was beautiful! It looked like a gorgeous resort as we floated by on the water taxi from POR last year.

The late start totally makes sense with how late you were out the night before. We have never entered the MK in the 10:00am hour out of fear of what the lines must be like at the entrance/security at that time - only ever gone at RD or in the late afternoon/early evening after a break. We actually considered it for one day so we could sleep in, but ended up going ahead and getting up for the 8:00am RD in part because we were scared of the potential crowd getting in closer to 10:00. How was it?

Crystal Palace looks like fun! We did a late breakfast there one day as well. Good for you for actually getting into some of the pictures! I always forget to do that unless there is a Photopass photographer there to take the shot.

Just caught up on your trip report and it's super fun! Your kids are adorable…I miss mine being that little! We gave up the DDP a couple trips ago and never looked back. I thought I would miss it but it's so liberating not being tied to all those specific credits. We now just eat what we want when we want!

I LOVE CP breakfast, though it's been a couple years since I've been. I plan on bringing my great-niece in 2018 and she will be 2.5 years old. I'm so excited because I'll get to go back to all these fun places!

Looking forward to reading more!

It truly is beautiful! Very sprawling and quiet! Love all the water there, as well.

We probably entered the parks around 10 (or so) every day! It was fairly crowded but it actually went very quickly and efficiently. But, of course, everyone and their brother was there by then! And all of our late breakfasts/early lunches were scheduled between 10 and 11:30 so we rarely had the opportunity to do anything before our meals. Ugh. :crazy2: And the plan had been to get stuff done from rope drop until meal time, then pretty much head for break after the meal, then back for the late afternoon. However, since we didn't get there until meal time, we had to go do things after the meal, pushing break time later, and not having as long to break (so no pool except one day) and then back later in the evening, and staying later in the parks. See the domino effect? Smh.

Yes, CP was great! And yeh, I am always the one taking the photos but Dad did a good job this time! I guess he was good for something! ;)

:welcome: Thanks for joining in! So glad to hear such good experiences with giving up the DDP. I think we will really enjoy the freedom to eat, or not eat as far as my kids are concerned, as we wish.

CP is wonderful! Seeing and experiencing Disney through a child's eyes is such a great experience! I'm glad you'll get a chance to experience all that (again) in 2018!

Very nice view from your room! I never much cared about the view until we were able to see fireworks from our room at BWV a few years ago, and ever since then I (usually) try for something decent. My preference is usually something peaceful and that's what your view looks like :) When we stayed at SSR back in 2011 our view was of a road and bus stop. I can't remember what building we were in but it was a very quick walk to the building with the quick service in it. The view wasn't what I would call bad but we did hear the busses late at night and early in the morning.
Back in 2014, neither if my kids wanted to do any character meals :( Finally shortly before we left Chris, then 8, changed his mind and requested CP. We did dinner not breakfast, but the character interaction was great, service very good and we found it to be very clean. I'd definitely try breakfast at some point!

Yay! You updated. I have always loved the crystal palace such a wonderful experience for your kids! Can't wait for more about your trip.

It can be hard to get moving after a long travel day and late travel night! But beautiful views from your room at SSR!

I love doing the last seating of breakfast at CP. It's less crowded and sometimes we get to see the characters more than once! Glad AJ had a good time with the characters!

You were probably in the Springs section, like us, bc that's the closest to the Carriage House and there are some road/bus stops views. I used touring plans to pick my preferred rooms (w/views) and had them send the fax and I did get one of the rooms on my list.

How was dinner? One important reason I'm probably sticking with breakfast is the cost, especially since we are paying OOP. Breakfast is the cheaper buffet. And it was good, so that's fine. And yes, the character interaction is awesome!

Thank you! Yes we love it CP! We did it last trip, this past one, and we will do it next year, as well!

Quick update coming tonight....

Yes, as much as I hated not doing it, I knew it was the best option for us. But I would've preferred arriving around 9am. Oh well.

We probably could've gotten the characters more than once but I was sort of in a hurry since we had arrived so late to MK.

Yes he really enjoyed the experiences and Will did too. You'll see soon enough! :)

Day Two 6/5/2016 ~ Magic Kingdom (part 2)

So, initially I had booked AJ at Pirate's League for 3:30 this day but then I decided a few weeks/days? before we left that I didn't want to have to rush our break on our first full day to get back for that and 3:30 was the latest available/offered (? I think), so we cancelled it. Good thing since we had ran late. So instead of leaving for our break so early, we decided to stay for a bit! AJ wanted to ride Pooh (again) so I think we decided to use our anytime FPs (MDE was showing like a 40 minute wait or something) and we headed to Fantasyland after leaving CP.

Another photo of this beauty:
IMG_4732.JPG
Mom decided not to ride so Dad, the boys, and I got in line. It didn't take too long and Will rode next to me. Well, actually, in my lap, as he was extremely unhappy with this ride! He whimpered in my arms the whole time. Hmmm...

After this we decided to head out for our break, but not before a stop to see the big cheese, Talking Mickey!! On the way, we saw a bit of this show on Main Street:
IMG_4734.JPG

The Line app estimated a 20 minute wait for Mickey. I can't remember what MDE said, but it was definitely closer to 30. AJ got the famous red card:
IMG_4735.JPG
This was actually our second of the trip, as we had gotten one for 7DMT the day before.

Here's our photos from the meet:

Mickey was trying to wrangle these two and he was having a rough time so he just basically threw up his hands:

So funny!

Ah...Will is really warmed up now!

A couple more Photopass shots:

PhotoPass_Visiting_MK_7707629118.jpeg

This was so neat and the boys just loved the whole experience. Mickey talked to them and they were seriously enthralled! Great interaction!

On the way out, we looked at several items in the gift shop, such as this one:
IMG_4748.JPG

I also saw some Maleficent ears I thought about getting but I passed. Fortunately, we got out without buying anything!

It was a little after 1pm at this point, so we headed out for our midday break. No one slept on the break...well, maybe Dad...but we did all rest and get cool. I think I probably jumped in the shower, as became custom during our breaks (I took one every night, too, as the heat just caused so much sweating...yuck).

We had a Splash Mtn FP for 4:35-5:35 so I tried to wrangle them out the door as early as I could but I think it was probably close to 4:30 before we actually headed back. Which makes for fun times trying to rush to get there. But I'll leave that story for the next update.

We thought the dinner was great, even Steve who generally isn't a fan of buffets. Both kids ate more there than they usually do at buffets. I totally understand going with the cheaper buffet, but if you end up deciding to try dinner at some point I don't think you'd be disappointed :)

I love the photopass picture with all you guys! That came out great. We have yet to meet Talking Mickey since he "arrived" after my boys lost their strong desire to meet characters :( The last few trips I've tried talking Chris into meeting him but no luck yet; I'll just have to keep trying.....

Good to know! You aren't the only person I've heard that from!

Thanks on the photos! I'm glad we got some good ones and some with all of us. All in all, I don't feel like I got enough photopass photos but we were rushing too much to stop and there was always a long line. Hopefully next year with DH, we'll have time to get more. It'll be nice to have some family photos!

Think I'm finally all caught up on the latest updates. I'm totally with you on the dining plan and when to arrive. We did the dining plan once and it was just way too much odd. I'm totally a grazer too ; ) We don't typically plan anything on arrival day either, just because with travel plans you never know what to expect. Sounds like 2017 will work out much better from that perspective. Speaking of which, congrats on your next trip!!!!!

We did photopass once, in 2013, and I totally thought it was worth it simply because we now have tons of awesome family photos (and a bunch of crappy ones lol). But it's rare for Steve and I to be in a picture together so I loved doing it. Not something I'd do every trip because like you mentioned it can be time consuming and annoying if you feel like you're going out of your way to look for pp photographers and then stand in a long line, but I'd definitely consider doing it again now that a few years have gone by.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! I'm very excited about the arrival day plans and even no dining plan because I'm looking forward to eating as I want! And thanks on the congrats! It's nice to have the ressie in place!
