Is it necessary to be there for rope drop at Animal Kingdom -

This is our first day and we have a 5:30 reservation at Boma so plan to be in the area all day.

Do we really need to bust ourselves to get there by RD. What are the headline attractions? For those that dont know, this will be September 17.

I know the animals are more active in the am, but will 10am be OK.:confused3

I think that if you want to ride Expedition Everest more than once, then RD is highly recommended.

Just had a look at TouringPlans.com.

The day is rated 2.2 / 10 for AK, so fairly quiet.

At 10am everything is under 10 minute wait. Will peak at 1pm for everything with waits up to 27 minutes for Kali River Rapids (you will get wet) Kilimanjaro Safaris 21 minutes and Expedition Everest 19 minutes. These three have fast passes availableEverything else is under that time. And will decline slightly in time as the day then progresses.

In Animal Kingdom rope drop is particularly important for Expedition Everest, however if you are not going to arrive until about 10am (try for 9:30am) you can reduce the extra waiting time by sending the fastest of your family with all your tickets to EE to collect FASTPASSes whilst the rest of you head for the Safari and then met up in that queue. Animal Kingdom also has a few walks and shows that you can work out a schedule in advance for (allow for waiting time prior to the actual show time). Animal Kingdom crowds are often lower as people leave in the early afternoon so that is a good time to try the Safari again.
The most important consideration is to make sure you enjoy your time in the park.

Thanks all,

We are generally reasonably early risers, but major ditherers, but I dont know how jet lag is going to affect us. We are definitely going to want to get out to the parks as soon as we can.

I think we will get there as early as we can without stressing about RD! :)

If you get a early morning breakfast reservation for donalds breakfast you can get in before rope drop and be at the top of the park ready for the safaris. We had no wait at all doing it this way and got heaps done in the day!

As Travel mum says if you want to ride EE get there early. We did in Sept 2010 the two times we went to AK. We got to ride EE 3 times in 10-15 minutes as we practically walked on. The longest part was walking thru the queue area.

From there we went to Dinosaur and rode it 2/3 times as well. Later in the day wait times are generally over 30 minutes.
