Have any of you stayed at Roosevelt State Park or Pine Mountain RV? We are planning a weekend trip to Callaway Gardens to see the Christmas lights in December, but we don't know which campground is better. I orginally thought that Callaway had a campground on the property, but they don't. Which one should we go with? The main difference that I see is that Roosevelt State Park doesn't have sewer.

Hey Holly - we have never stayed at either. However, back in July I went to Callaway Gardens for a girl's getaway and we stayed in the hotel. My husband sent me on a mission while I was there, and that was to check out both places. I will say that if you are used to camping in GA state parks, Roosevelt is in line with what you'd expect. Pine Mountain RV Resort was different - there is clearly a section that has been there for a while and a "newer" area. Visually, I preferred Pine Mountain. The newer looking campsites had a paved area where the RV would be parked. It had a nice playground, pool, arcade, etc. Again, I haven't stayed in either place but did look at both. I think we're gonna try to go this year too. :)

Thanks so much, Holly! Looks like it will be Pine Mountain RV for us! That's what I love about this board, you can ask a question that's not related to the Fort and someone still knows the answer.

Thanks again!

Roosevelt is better. No full hookups but does not have a trailer park feel. I think Pine Mtn park has some full time residents.

we spent a few days at the Roosevelt park a couple of years back and loved it.
The road to get from the office to the camping area is quite steep, but once you are there is beautiful.
While there they had a climbing program to teach children and adult to climb on trees, my daughter did it and loved it.

I guess we will have to do Roosevelt next time. I made reservations for Pine Mountain RV last week.

We are really looking forward to seeing the lights at Callaway, although they are driving me crazy. I called to buy our tickets and told them I needed 5 but that I might end up needing one more ticket if my daughter's boyfriend can come home from A-school (Navy) that weekend. They told me that my time slot might be sold out for cars by the time I add a ticket. We aren't adding another car to the time slot, just another person inside my car. She wouldn't budge, said I probably needed to buy 6 tickets, but that if he can't come, the ticket is non-refundable! What a pain! I think I will call back and see if I get a different answer from another person.
