My DH & I are considering making a quick trip in the next month but have been told that all of the studios are booked for that particular weekend. When I go to the WDW site I can find a studio at SSR for the dates we are interested in at the FL and AP rates despite having DVC MS tell us nothing is available. I would obviously prefer to use points so I'm wondering how often or if WDW ever takes rooms from CRO and puts them back into DVC inventory.

TIA.

That inventory is usually from points used by other members for non-DVC options. Normally, that inventory won't be used again for point reservations. Wihtin 60 days of the arrival date, any unreserved member inventory is also turned over to CRO - and that can be accessed by MS for point reservations.

At the annual meeting a couple of weeks ago, Jim Lewis responded to a question about that issue stating that it is something they are looking into.

Stay Tuned! :)

Look at it this way. Member A wanted to go on the DCL, so they used their points for the trip. MS took those points and gave them to CRO to sell so DVC can pay DCL for the trip that Member A took. If they try to bring them back to use at a DVC resort, they would be using them twice. Can't do that.

I think Jim Lewis may have been looking at the time of year when they offer these points to CRO. Like give fewer during the holiday time when more members want to go and try for more at the little bit slower time (but then CRO might not be able to sell that unit). Or maybe the type of unit traded for (like a studio vs a one bedroom - studios get booked faster because they require fewer points).
