Has anyone been at a convention at CR. I will be attending in October and was wondering since it is a "reduced rate" what kind of room will I be getting. I have nomally stayed at moderates on my own time and chose where I wanted. Any feedbc would be great. Thanks

:welcome: to the DIS, agilekees! When booking a convention rate at the CR, your room is assigned upon check-in. Your room could be in the Garden Wing or in the Tower. The rooms' interior in both locations are identical.

The Garden Wing is three floors and rooms can either face toward the parking lot and monorail, a garden area near the pool, the canal or Bay Lake. There are no balconies in the GW.

The Tower is 15 floors, with two floors dedicated to club level rooms. All rooms have balconies and face either the MK or Bay Lake.

I also have a convention at Contemporary Resort in August. I booked my end of April beginning of May. Awesome rate! I was excited as we have stayed at many resorts and DVC resorts but not the CR. The CM was wonderful and said I think your family will love this room. He told me I would be in a tower room with a Theme Park View, I was so excited.

I can't imagine how a call center CM can tell you months in advance what room category you'll be in if you booked through convention services (or whatever they call that department).

The person who took your call is not in charge of room assignments and really can't even influence room assignments beyond placing a request on your reservation for a tower - theme park view.

I just don't want you to get your hopes up!

I did a conference in March, during the height of spring break. Having paid only $189 a night for our room, I was expecting a garden wing room. Just for giggles, I put in a request for tower - theme park view.

We checked-in around 10:15 p.m., and you can imagine my shock and delight when the front desk CM told us we'd been upgraded to a tower - Bay Lake view. I totally expected garden wing, so anything better than that was a great surprise. I didn't really expect to get the theme park view, anyway.

As pp said, you could be anywhere but unless you are in a suite on the top floor, all the rooms are the same size regardless of location. We stayed in a Tower MKV room last year and are staying in a Garden Wing room this time. Only different will be the view, not the room! We can't wait, we love it there. You are going to be so happy!

I just got an email 6/4/12 stating I had a Garden Room:scared1:. Shocked!! :confused:I called and they said they don't guarantee anything. I told her the person I spoke to told me that is what I was getting when I booked.

After hanging up I dug out the old Confirmation email out of my saved files 5/6/12 and Yes, it read Tower Room Theme Park View:cool1:. Then a month later they changed it, so not right.

I called right back and left a message as the booking center closed at 6:00 p.m. tonight. I knew booking it was run of the house but when he said your family is going to love this room. I was like really and he said in the Tower with a Theme Park View. I felt so lucky like I hit the lottery. After hubby had been out of work for 15 months. He has finally landed at a job We are going away for my job and extending it with out DVC. Not the end of the world but really a let down.

I'm so sorry to be the bringer of bad tidings, I really am. But better a disappointment now (when you have time to adjust) than when you're standing at the front desk. The CM you spoke with was probably new in that exact role. Just make sure you have the request in your reservation, and you may get lucky just like we did! What was even stranger about our luck was that it was during the busy spring break season when the resort was sold out. My guess is that since the garden wing rooms are less expensive, those rooms got snapped up by "regular" guests before the convention hold was put on any rooms, leaving lots of tower rooms as the only place they could put us. The conference had distinctive blue tote bags, and I saw lots of those tote bags in the hallways and elevators of the tower.

I know, thanks! They did call me back first thing this morning and I spoke to a very nice helpful person from Group Reservations.

I told her exactly what had happened. I originally called to book a room for our conference. I felt so lucky that I was given this room in the tower with a theme park view. I didn't ask for it or expect it. I took it as a bit of disney Magic. Then a month later I get another confirmation. I didn't really look at it and thought wow it took a month to get the confirmation.

Next looking back I did get an original confirmation.

She asked what I would like to see happen. I told her that this doesn't happen to anyone else because it is very disappointing. I wanted an address to follow up with a letter. After being on hold she told me she would call me back.

She called they resent the confirmation Tower/Theme Park and my new confirmation states. Do not change per (managers name).

Kind of bitter sweet.

I thought it was just a stroke of luck, a wonderful gift but really it was a mistake. Disney is going to honor it. (We will see when we arrive, but I am not going to believe it until it happens) I just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. The system they have for Conventions shouldn't allow it to book.

Sounds like a happy ending to me! I know, you can't totally believe it until it actually happens, but it appears you've encountered Disney customer service at its best ... mistakes are possible, no system can ever be perfect, but a manager decided to try to make you happy rather than leave you disappointed. In Disney-speak, they call it "guest recovery."
