We have an upcoming trip and will be staying in a 2 bedroom villla, has anyone ever asked for an upgrade to a 3 bedroom and if available been granted the upgrade? Wishful Thinking!:worship:

Don't bet on it. DVC upgrades are slim to none especially for that point difference. The concensus is to book what you would like to stay in. I'm sure they will gladly upgrade you if you are willing to use the extra points.

Many CM's on this board have stated that you will most likely NOT get an upgrade if you ask.

ETA: I was denied a 12pm checkout because I'm DVC. They said they aren't allowed to give DVC extended checkouts

An upgrade to a Grand Villa? Well that would be one pretty amazing upgrade. I'm sure in the history of DVC time, it must have happened to someone, but that is SOOOO unlikely. There are very few Grand Villas to begin with.

Boardwalk has 7.
Beach Club has none.
Bay Lake Towers has 14.
Old Key West has 27.
SSR has 36.
Wilderness Lodge has none.
Animal Kingdom has 22 (per DVCnews - not sure if that's updated to include Jambo House & Kidani or not).

I would think that would be a most unlikely upgrade.

Edited: I was thinking you had a cash reservation when I answered, but I see the PP was thinking points. Definitely won't happen on points unless you pay the difference in points.

Upgrade? unlikely... I see you are staying at SSR... is that the upgrade you are wanting? if so, you could ask when you check in they happen to have a THV available. THV has 3 bedrooms but are the same points as 2 bedrooms at SSR.

If you really want the 3 bedroom why not call and see whether there is a THV available during your stay?

Complimentary upgrades are pretty rare at any resort, and aren't given just for the asking.

Free upgrades at DVC resorts are extraordinarily rare, and are usually only done if a maintenance problem has made your villa unusable, and there are no other villas of that category available.

And, as the PP said, there are very few Grand Villas available. They're extremely popular with members, and are often booked at 11 months out. Members will sometimes buy at a certain resort just because they want the home resort booking advantage for getting a GV.

As I said, Wishful Thinking!! However, I did call SSR reservations and they do have a 3 bedroom villa available the week we are there..we are traveling with a lot of medical equipment and I was hoping for an upgrade...oh well, one can dream!! That's what Disney is all about right?!:thumbsup2

Sure you can get an upgrade if there is an available villa....you will JUST NEED THE POINTS TO DO IT. :thumbsup2

The only upgrade we ever received - without asking - was from a studio to a one-bedroom at SSR when it first opened. Apparently, they had overbooked and needed our studio for a two-bedroom lock-off reservation. It was obviously fine with us! We had already been in the room for an hour or so, but they moved all our things for us.

DVC, being a timeshare, doesn't handle upgrades the way a hotel does. Even if they have a Grand Villa sitting empty, they won't give it to you unless you have the points in your account to cover the difference.

Why don't you just book a 3 bedroom, if that's really what you want.

What about asking for an upgrade from a WL studio villa to a 1BR? Can't hurt to ask, right?

I just want to clarify something. My "wishful thinking" question about an upgrade has been targeted by some as being greedy. I donated my time and my points to a family with an ill child who is also quadriplegic and tavels with alot of medical supplies. My DH took a week of his vacation time to stay home with our son. I just worked my butt off in the August heat, missing my family terribly to help make this girls' wish come true. (I am a registered nurse) I stayed up all night with her caring for her needs and slept during the day when they were at the parks. The upgrade was divine intervention not greed! The resort allocated our much needed handicapped villa to someone else and had to upgrade our party to an available one. Be careful when assuming! :tinker:

:cool1: That is great. Can't wait to hear all your details.:goodvibes

FYI, out of her kind heart, Swanwed was going on vacation with her client (who has very serious medical conditions since birth) and her client's family donating her own points to stay at the SSR.

That was nice of her to do. But, if the handicapped accessible two bedroom had been available, that is what she would have gotten. I think she was very lucky that the room she reserved wasn't available, not an upgrade out of the goodness of DVC's heart. In the future, she should book a GV instead of a two bedroom if that is what she really needs. The GV for the points of a two bedroom isn't always going to happen.

But I'm glad it worked out for her.
