Room Requests?

I know requesting a certain room does not always guarantee that it will happen, but what is the best way to do that? Should I call Disney direct or fax the info? Any sugggestions?

We've always had good luck just telling the CM our requests when we made our reservation. The request information then appeared on all the correspondence WDW sent us. Also, we've tried to check in earlier (between noon and 2) in the day. Never had a problem getting what we wanted. I've heard mixed reviews about the fax and felt like it might be more of a bother than a help.
