Room Requests and 60-day Online Check-in

I'm wondering how most DVCers handle room requests. Do you call or e-mail MS with a request? Do you do online check-in, and do you put your request in there. I ask because I've had varying luck with requests, and I'm wondering if there's a better way to do it. I'm also wondering how the new MyMagic+ affects things.

For three stays in 2011 and 2012, I e-mailed my room requests to MS. I did not do online check-in. And each of those times, my request was honored.

For two stays in 2013, I e-mailed my room request to MS. I did use the new 60-day online check-in. But where it asks for room requests, I left it blank. I left it blank because the online room request options didn't offer what I was looking for, and also because I was hoping that by leaving it blank, that somehow my e-mail to MS would take precedence. None of my requests were met on these stays.

Has anyone else done the 60-day online check-in and also left a room request with MS? Does one in effect negate the other? And with the new MyMagic+ system, will you be able to reserve FP+ times without doing online check-in?

I e-mail member services with my request. Last month I stayed at BLT, I requested even number room, north side (for lake view). I did online check-in but there was not an option for that so I left it blank. I got my request.

That you're requests you gave to MS over the phone or via email were not met when you did on-line check-in and did not use its requests section is mere coincidence. That on-line check in service was created for use by Disney's CRO and persons doing cash or package purchases through Disney. The room request section applies to those persons and, as you have already noticed, does not even have many of the usual requests you can make through MS. Any DVC requests still need to be made through MS.

Success with requests made through MS is not guaranteed and members have had varying experiences. Personally I have been successful only a little better than 50% of the time and I tend to keep requests as simple and generalized as possible, e.g., requesting high floor at BLT without any other request, because those will have the greatest chance of success.

I used to phone MS to add requests and found that sometimes the reservation got updated and sometimes it didn't. I felt that the MS CM just faked it.

I have since submitted all requests via the member website contact form and all requests have been noted.

I just did online check in Monday. Had MS note my request when reservation was made. I kept it simple. All I noted was close to lobby. When I did my online check in, in the section that allows you to make requests, close to lobby was already checked. I was then able to make one more request so I went with sunset savanna.

^I assume you are referring to Kidani not Jambo. Haven't seen what they have done lately with AKV because when we did on-line check in there last October, the choices you could make were not even relevant to anything. Thus, if it now shows "Close to Lobby" and "Sunset Savanna view" that is something new (I think one of the choices last Oct was something like room with balcony -- duh?!). Just note that the sunset savanna request was unnecessary as all Kidani savanna view rooms that are in fact close to the lobby have a sunset savanna view.
