Hi,

I am a new DVC Member (SSR)
Could someone please explain the Room Ready Policy to me??

Thanks, Carol

My Understanding...

When the resort is not at capacity, at the time that you check in (prior to 4pm check in time) the CM will select a room that is currently available (already been cleaned) that is as close to your requests as possible at that time. Thus allowing you to go to your immediately (even like at 8am).

I think that you are given the option of waiting for a room that more accurately meets your requests, if there are vacancies. Obviously, you would not be able to go to that room at that time. You may need to wait until 4pm.

I hope that I am right, and that I explained for you,

Edward

The main change with room ready is that rooms are not pre-assigned by requests and date of reservation as they were previously.

From what has been posted, it seems that they don't always use it totally like that. They may pre-assign some rooms and leave some open to move people around if they arrive early. If you have requests, be sure to note them on your reservation when you talk to MS. My bet is if you don't have any particular requests, those are the ones they leave open. When I checked into BWV last month, the resort was sold out and all rooms were preassigned. I think it is up to the discresion of the front desk the method they use on a particular day.

DVC resorts do not accept phone calls or faxes reguarding requests.

I don't know about other times and resorts, but that's exactly what happened to me when I checked in to BCV at 10:45 am one Sunday in December. Had a choice of 2 rooms which met 2 of my 3 requests, were not the view I'd requested-they were both Epcot. What was really nice was that the CM went further in explaining exactly how the views from the 2 rooms were different ("one overlooks more of Canada, this other overlooks more of Spaceship Earth. They both view Illuminations") I loved the choice and the way it was presented to me.

Checked into OKW on 1/11 at 3:30, my first visit with "room ready". I was given the choice of three not-so-great rooms that they had left with my requests (NS, 2nd floor, water view). I took the best of the three and it was by far the worst room I have ever gotten at OKW in over 10 years. My view (room 4423) was half parking lot with an RV parked there for most of our visit and the other half was the end of a dried up pond. I could live with the less than great view but the traffic noise rendered our balcony useless, and the balcony is very important to us.

I had also requested by fax (even though I know they are not looking at faxes any longer) to have a VCR remote in the room so we could program the timer on the VCR. We have made this request in the past and the remote would be waiting for us in our pre-assigned room. This time there was no remote and it took two calls to housekeeping to get one, after convincing them that the standard remote in the room does not program the VCR.

The room wasn't in such great shape either. Candy papers on floor behind bedside table (I was plugging in laptop, not looking for something wrong!), bedside lamp with no lightbulb, one burner on stovetop not working, dried egg on stovetop, a lot of dust on washer hose, dental floss on bathroom floor (not ours, I forgot it), ironing board would open but not close, etc. I did leave a note to housekeeping about some of these issues. And for the first time ever I had housekeeping knocking on my door on the day of check-out at 8:30 am! I told them I would be leaving at 10:45 and they were back at 9:30!

Wow, I didn't mean to digress from OP's question and I didn't mean it to sound like the room was horrible with the "room ready" policy, just not what I have gotten in the past. Hopefully, this was just a fluke and we'll see how things go on our next couple of trips. However, if with "room ready" I can't be pretty much assured a decent balcony with booking 11 months out, I'll probably try my luck trading out.

PS: I really did have a good time, and the rest of OKW was great as usual.

I am not even sure when this whole room thing came about (I am not a very good DVCer...I miss a lot in my excitememnt to just be there!!!), but I will say that I have never had what I would consider to be a bad room. I have had some that had nicer views than others, I have had some that seemed closer to needing some rehab than others, but I can't say I've ever had a "bad" room. The couple of times that I have found a minor problem with the room that I have reported to Housekeeping, it has been taken care of quickly and painlessly.

The "Vacation Gods" must smile upon me or something.

In December we stayed at the VWL and the BCV each for one week. Upon checking in to the VWL the CM behind the desk didn't even know what "room ready" was. He said that the room I had was assigned about one week before check in. It was a great room but did not meet any of my requests other than non-smoking. At the BCV I was given a choice of rooms and was told what did and did not meet my requests. I checked into the BCV later in the day too. I have heard stories similar to this by others as well.
