Room-only Res first, Vac Package later??

And remember that if you wait to buy your tickets as part of the package you will not be able make your FP+ reservations at 60 days out, you will have to wait until you buy and link the tickets. If that is 10 or 5 days out there will be little availability left for the headliner attractions.

thank you all for the tips and suggestions! you guys are pixie-dust awesome!!

If you want to add dining or dining and tickets you must rebook with the travel company. This can be as late as a day before arrival.

Clarification please. I thought DDP had to be added 72 hrs before check in. Are you sure about the "as late as a day before?"

When I spoke to the CM she said I needed to do it 3 days before to make sure "everything was set up and ready to go". I think she said otherwise there may be some issues. So, you can add it when you check in, but maybe there would be extra CM work any time you tried to redeem DDP credits because it wouldn't have loaded in the system. Is what it seemed she was saying.

Has anyone done this before ---- Book room-only first, then 10 days prior to the first day of room reservation upgrade it to a package with tickets, dining plans, etc???

The cancellation policy of a package is nerve-wrecking to me. We plan to go in late August and the weather is unpredictable.... My family loves food and we will save a lot with the dining plan. But I don't like the idea of that 45 days window. I spoke to a CM today who told me I can convert the room-only res into a package no later than 5 days out... Wonder if anyone has done it and if there was any issue with it...

Thank you all in advance....

If you wait that long to buy your park tickets, you lose the 60 day advantage for making FPs. The system won't let you make your fast pass reservations until you have tickets linked to your MDE.

So, you can add it when you check in,

I know for a fact that you cannot add the DDP at check in, and am almost positive you have to do it at least 72 hrs before. This has been discussed many times on the DIS and I've not seen anything, anywhere, that this policy has changed.

And, the people on the phone have a tendency to make things up (instead of admitting they don't know the answer).

A day before is the deadline. You can't add dining the day of arrival.

I don't think this is true. Have you done it just the day before? EVERY time this question comes up, the reply has been 72 hrs for regular guest and 48 hrs for DVC.

Very, very true. Thanks to the changes with the reservation system and MDX it is easier to make changes that late before arrival. Unfortunately I can't go in to how and why I know this, but I can simply say I have done this myself several times. ;)

Now this doesn't mean the resort agent will be able to do the modification themselves. Expired codes, availability of dates, resort, or room type might make it necessary that the agent needs guest service assistance, but I assure you it can be done.

This is for resorts. I can not speak for DVC.
