Room in the Contemporary Tower!!!!!

OMG, I'm so excited! We are planning a quickie trip to the World in July...I called yesterday to see what resorts were available. (Swan and Dolphin were completely sold out for our dates, which was alarming.) They had a room in the Contemp. tower for $284 (AAA rate). Does that sound like an okay deal? I just got so excited about it, DD8 has ALWAYS wanted to stay at the Contemp. and we never have. I suppose we could get a better price if one of us had an AP, but we're also doing the 7/4 deal in October which includes UPH's, so it wouldn't be smart at this point to buy an AP.

Should I request a view of the Castle? I know it would be just that, a request, and not a guarantee, but I didn't know if this is something I should do NOW, so the CM's can get it in the computer, as opposed to faxing them our request a few days before arrival.

What can we expect, all your Contemp. lovers?

We love the CR tower and you will too. The MK view is great, but we are just as happy with the Bay Lake view - there are no cars or roads in sight and it's very peaceful and pretty. If you don't get the MK view, you can always go to the observation deck to see the castle and Wishes from the CR.

If you want to make the request for the MK view, then you should do so now so it's in the reservation system. Faxing your request before you go does not make any difference in our experience - we usually get the requests that we made with the reservation. Also, they try to honor your requests in order - so if nonsmoking is more important than MK view, make sure that you tell them that first. Also, they download from central reservation to the CR about 5 days before arrival, so don't make any changes within 5 days, or your original requests will be gone.

No matter which view you get, you will love the CR!

sounds like a pretty good rate to me...I LOVE The CR! Stayed there many many times( probably too many). We're staying Poly this year, so I will miss my home away from home. Hope you have a great time!

Have a great time! We were lucky enough to get a MK view last November and it was AWESOME! I had so much fun lying in bed, watching the castle change colors.

To me, the MK view is beautiful and I would, as posted above, request the MK view at the time you make your reservation. I however prefer the Baylake view. It's just lovely and wonderfully relaxing.

We just returned from a stay at the CR a few weeks ago. We also booked a Tower room, but made no requests until 3 days before check-in, when I faxed a letter to the room controller. This was the first time I ever bothered to fax a request, and only did it at the suggestion of my DU agent. I requested a non-smoking room first, then a MK view, since it was DD's 5th birthday and I thought that would make it even more special. We were lucky enough to be given just what we requested, on the11th floor, no less!

Since our return, however, I've been told that a simple request at check-in is all that's necessary - so there appear to be a few different views on when to make requests .

I see from your Signature that you go to Disney quite a bit. Have you ever bought APs? It seems it might be cheaper to buy them than to but tix this trip and to do the 7/4, though I thought it was 7/5. Also do you plan more trips throughout the year? I'm a pass holder and its nice to know that once you buy them you don't have to worry about tickets for a whole year. Sorry if I'm being nosey its the bookkeeper in me trying to save money . But I'd do the math to see which might be the better in the long run. We also go to Disney 4-5 a year also. This will also be our first time staying at CR. Hoping they come out with some good FL resident rates for Sept.

Shirley, you are right. My DD and I used to have annual passes, but let them expire last year. Since then, I have let myself get suckered into the packages for the freebies, goodies and add-ons (we just did the Prince and Princess add-on in April). I am a former accountant myself, I KNOW it's not financially the best choice! I've got to mend my ways!

(The 7/4 deal was something my DH got with his new Visa.)

I'm going to call today and see if there are any AP rates for my upcoming trips! Thanks for the reminder!

The Bay Lake view is OUTSTANDING....you won't be disappointed if you are placed on that side. It is so beautiful - and you have the aded benefit of the nightly Electric Water Parade viewed from your room.

We stayed in the CR Tower in July 2000 with a direct view of MK. It was beautiful! And you can't beat the convience of the monorail location. We were on the 7th Floor with the monorail just below us (on the 4th). Your rate sounds pretty good. Have a wonderful trip.

Hello,

I requested when I made my reservation for a MK view. I booked a Tower room just incase I couldn't get the upgrade.
My 2 questions are : Has anyone stayed in a smoking room that I believe is on the 8th floor? If so was it a good view.

and secondly there seems to be a lot of people that loved the Bay view, does anyone have a picture looking out from your balcany?

WOW, thats great!!! I love the COntemp. We stayed in the wings, but my dream is a tower room. I would request a castle view, but I dont know if you will get it. Still, You will have a GREAT time! Tell us how it is! We are going july 3-11 at the Dolphin! We might stop in the Contemp. for some coffee. Maybe we will see you there!!!
